Three hectares, five generations, and one exquisite premier cru—Clos Sorbé at its most expressive.
From one of Morey-Saint-Denis’ most traditional domaines, the 2023 Clos Sorbé 1er Cru from Domaine Henri & Philippe Jouan is a textbook expression of Burgundy restraint and site clarity. Made from vines rooted in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, this Pinot Noir is shaped by heritage—Philippe Jouan follows in the footsteps of four generations before him, with an approach that privileges site over show.
Clos Sorbé lies just below the village, on shallow limestone soils that bring perfume and finesse. The 2023 vintage offers purity and charm: red cherry, fresh raspberry, violet and faint earthy spice—all framed by fine tannin and refreshing acidity. A quietly powerful wine, with the kind of detail and length that Burgundy devotees chase.
Made with minimal intervention and traditional handling, this wine is both a snapshot of a place and a continuation of a legacy. Drink from 2026 or hold through the next decade.

Philippe Jouan is the fifth generation of his family to work in the vineyards of Morey-Saint-Denis, continuing the winemaking tradition established by his great-grandfather, a barrel cooper. Philippe's deep-rooted connection to the land and his family’s winemaking history inform his approach to viticulture and winemaking. Under Philippe's stewardship, the Domaine has grown in both quality and reputation, producing wines that reflect the unique character of the Côte de Nuits. While the estate remains small, with only three hectares of vines, Philippe has worked to refine and preserve the traditional practices of his ancestors, focusing on low-intervention methods in both the vineyard and the cellar. This commitment to preserving the authenticity of the wines while evolving with modern techniques ensures that the wines of Domaine Henri & Philippe Jouan continue to impress wine lovers and critics alike.
The winemaking philosophy at Domaine Henri & Philippe Jouan is grounded in a commitment to producing wines that express the purest form of their terroir. Philippe follows the belief that great wines are made in the vineyard, a philosophy that has guided his gentle and natural approach to viticulture. The estate is dedicated to minimal intervention, with a focus on preserving the natural balance of the vines and soils. Philippe practices sustainable farming methods, reducing treatments and using traditional techniques such as selective de-leafing and minimal spraying. In the cellar, the wines undergo careful fermentation with an emphasis on maintaining the purity of the fruit. Philippe’s approach to winemaking is simple yet refined: allowing the land and grapes to speak for themselves, resulting in wines that reflect both the heritage and potential of the exceptional vineyards in Morey-Saint-Denis.
Fresh cherry, crushed raspberry, violet and a whisper of undergrowth.
Silky red fruits, subtle spice and limestone tension glide across a layered, mid-weight palate.
Fine-grained tannins and gentle savoury drive carry through a long, linear finish.
