A Masterpiece of the Côte de Nuits - Domaine Dujac’s Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 is a wine that speaks to the heart of Burgundy’s finest terroir. Located between the renowned villages of Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin, this Grand Cru vineyard enjoys a slight slope and an east-southeast-facing exposure, providing optimal sunlight and consistent ripening conditions. The site’s unique soil composition, transitioning from Comblanchien limestone in the east to crinoidal limestone in the west, imbues the wine with complexity and depth.
This vineyard is situated at the base of the hillside, where the terroir combines mineral richness with the full expression of Pinot Noir. The wine's history in the hands of Domaine Dujac is one of great precision and care, delivering a wine that is as elegant as it is powerful.

From a total of .70 ha in both Charmes and Mazoyères. Once again there is just enough wood present to be noticed but not intrude on the overtly floral and appealingly spicy mix of both red and dark cherry, violet and forest floor scents. There is a positively gorgeous mouthfeel if only average density to the medium-bodied flavors that tighten up substantially as the finish is robust and borderline rustic.
A powerful mid purple. The bouquet has a concentrated dark fruit but a little sterner than some examples. Then a really plump fruit in the mouth, with some drier tannins behind, 75% whole bunch vinification here as it tends to show more. The ripest wine which rather shows. Drink: 2031-2039
At 14.1% alcohol, the 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is the most powerful wine in the cellar, offering up aromas of cherries, plums, potpourri, orange rind and spices, followed by a full-bodied, rich and layered palate that's textural and muscular.
The deeply coloured Charmes boasts an impressively ripe plummy fruit with menthol, earth, and smoke accents. The tannic structure is silky and very fine – less grippy than many – and enough extract ensures that the finish lingers invitingly on the palate. The grapes are from four parcels split between Aux Charmes and Mazoyères; approximately 85% were fermented as whole clusters in 2022, with fewer punch-downs to avoid over-extraction. The result is elegant and very fine. Drink: 2035-2075.
Domaine Dujac, founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, is a beacon of excellence in Burgundy winemaking. Situated in the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis, the estate has grown from humble beginnings to become one of the most respected producers in the region. Jacques, inspired by his father’s love for fine wines and his own experiences with Burgundy’s great winemakers, embarked on a journey to craft wines that would reflect the unique terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. Today, Domaine Dujac remains a family business, with Jacques’ son Jeremy and his wife Diana taking the reins, ensuring the estate’s legacy continues with the same dedication to quality. The winery is known for its commitment to biodynamic practices and minimal intervention winemaking, allowing the pure expression of the terroir to shine through in every bottle.
At Domaine Dujac, the philosophy centres on the belief that great wine begins in the vineyard. The estate’s 24 vineyard blocks, planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and other Burgundy varieties, are farmed with the utmost care and respect for the land. Certified organic since 2011 and with biodynamic practices introduced in 2003, Domaine Dujac prioritises healthy soils and sustainable farming methods, using organic composting, straw mulching, and cultivating inter-row cover crops to nourish the vineyard and maintain biodiversity. The emphasis is on producing low-yielding vines that can develop deep root systems, allowing the grapes to express the full potential of their terroir. The estate’s commitment to quality is evident in every aspect of its vineyard management, with a focus on hand-picking grapes, careful pruning, and a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking.
The winemaking philosophy at Domaine Dujac is rooted in the idea that the vineyard’s work should be respected and preserved. Using indigenous yeasts and minimal handling, the wines are crafted to showcase the unique character of each vintage and terroir. The whole-bunch fermentation method, along with light pressing and extended maturation in oak barrels, results in wines that are elegant, balanced, and able to age gracefully. With a dedication to preserving the natural expression of their vineyards, Domaine Dujac produces wines that reflect both the philosophy of its founders and the evolving vision of the next generation. Through their meticulous approach to both viticulture and winemaking, Domaine Dujac continues to be one of the most admired names in Burgundy.
Hints of walnut provide an added depth, complementing the wine’s fresh, vibrant fruit character with an earthy, savory touch.
Medium to full-bodied structure, balanced by fine, firm tannins. It has a layered richness with an underlying minerality, creating a wine that is both sturdy and refined, with a velvety texture. Great purity and complexity.
A savoury edge, supported by a backbone of bright acidity. The wine will continue to evolve, promising greater complexity and richness with age. This is a wine for the patient collector, one that will develop and improve for decades to come.

There is a positively gorgeous mouthfeel if only average density to the medium-bodied flavors that tighten up substantially as the finish is robust and borderline rustic. This could use better depth but 10 or years of bottle aging should address that. - Allen Meadows – Burghound Drink: 2034+, 92-94 Points
