The 2021 vintage of Domaine Chanson’s Beaune Clos du Roi 1er Cru Rouge benefits from the challenging yet rewarding conditions of the year. After a cold winter, an early spring followed by a destructive frost impacted many vineyards, including those in Beaune. The months that followed saw alternating rainy and hot periods, while a series of heatwaves affected the vines during summer. However, the cool autumn temperatures helped the grapes reach maturity, resulting in a vintage that is both expressive and complex, despite reduced yields. Chanson’s 3-hectare plot of Clos du Roi produced wines with bright fruit, floral fragrances, and a well-balanced structure.
