Profound depth and regal structure define this iconic Grand Cru Burgundy from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most legendary domaines. The 2023 Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Grand Cru represents the pinnacle of Pinot Noir expression from Burgundy’s most revered vineyard, where generations of meticulous viticulture and exceptional terroir converge. Domaine Armand Rousseau’s parcels within Chambertin are planted to old vines rooted in complex limestone and marl soils, yielding fruit of remarkable concentration, finesse and longevity. Under the stewardship of Eric Rousseau, the domaine continues its philosophy of restrained winemaking and transparent terroir expression, preserving the purity and nobility that have made Rousseau one of Burgundy’s most sought-after producers. The 2023 vintage combines richness with freshness, shaped by favourable growing conditions that delivered ripe tannins while retaining aromatic precision and mineral lift.
In the glass the wine reveals soaring aromas of black cherry, cassis, violets and rose petals layered with spice, forest floor, incense and crushed stone nuances. The palate is broad yet impeccably refined, offering extraordinary concentration wrapped in velvety tannins and vibrant acidity. Despite its power, the wine remains poised and graceful, unfolding with remarkable clarity and persistence across the palate. Rousseau’s subtle use of oak enhances texture and structure without obscuring the vineyard’s character, allowing the mineral tension and savoury complexity of Chambertin to shine through. The finish is exceptionally long, layered and saline, suggesting immense ageing potential over several decades. This is a monumental and deeply intellectual Burgundy that rewards patience and careful cellaring. It pairs beautifully with roasted game, duck, truffle dishes and refined French cuisine.

“The 2023 Chambertin Grand Cru is brilliant, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cherries, berries, orange zest, smoked meats, incense and rose petals, followed by a full-bodied, layered and multidimensional palate that’s deep, concentrated and strikingly complete.”
“A markedly floral-suffused nose combines notes of red and dark pinot fruit, spice, sandalwood and discreet sauvage nuances. The super-sleek, intense and imposingly-scaled broad-shouldered flavors possess outstanding mid-palate density along with superb power on the compact, youthfully austere and massively persistent finish.”
“The 2023 Chambertin Grand Cru has a magnificent bouquet with pure red berry fruit, crushed stone, wilted rose petal and subtle sous-bois scents. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, perfectly judged acidity and astonishing precision on the sustained finish.”
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s greatest producers. Their wines inspire awe in the fine wine world, with each vintage highly sought after. The domaine was founded at the turn of the last century by its namesake Armand Rousseau, courtesy of a small inheritance of vineyards in Gevrey Chambertin followed by additional vineyards added through marriage. Today, the domaine produces some of the world's most prized wines. Their substantial holdings of Chambertin have accumulated through purchases which span nearly 90 years.
The estate boasts a rich history, initiated by the pioneering efforts of Armand Rousseau in the 1930s. Today, his grandson Eric and great-granddaughter Cyrielle are at the helm. The wines produced by this domaine are pale, finely structured and possess great elegance and stamina. The key to the Rousseau style is simple - old vines and sensible yields, with the wines gaining weight and complexity as they age. These wines are highly coveted by collectors and investors due to their limited annual production of just 65,000 bottles.
Domaine Armand Rousseau’s philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that great wine is born first and foremost in the vineyard. For generations, the Rousseau family has focused on preserving the pure identity of Burgundy’s finest terroirs through meticulous vineyard work, low yields, and minimal intervention in both farming and winemaking. The domaine places enormous importance on respecting the individuality of each climat, allowing every vineyard site to express its own character with clarity and authenticity. Traditional methods remain central to their approach, from careful hand-harvesting to patient élevage designed to support, rather than overshadow, the fruit. At the same time, the estate embraces precision and quiet evolution, adapting practices thoughtfully while maintaining the timeless style that has defined Rousseau wines for decades. Elegance, balance, transparency, and longevity are valued above power or excess, resulting in wines that reveal complexity gradually over time. Domaine Armand Rousseau also believes in stewardship, viewing themselves not simply as owners of historic vineyards, but as custodians responsible for protecting these exceptional sites for future generations. This philosophy of restraint, patience, and reverence for terroir is what has established the domaine as one of Burgundy’s most respected and enduring producers.
