Product Description:
Didier Dagueneau Vin de France Les Jardins de Babylone Demi Sec 2021 is a rare and highly distinctive off-dry white wine from the Jurançon hills of South-West France. Produced under the Les Jardins de Babylone name, this cuvée is closely associated with Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau and Guy Pautrat. The vineyard lies above the village of Aubertin in the foothills of the Pyrenees, where steep slopes and mountain influence help produce wines with striking freshness and aromatic precision. Les Jardins de Babylone was founded by Didier Dagueneau, who was drawn to the amphitheatre-like vineyard setting and its resemblance to the legendary Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The 2021 Demi-Sec is made from Petit Manseng, a grape especially suited to producing wines that balance natural sweetness with vivid acidity. Its Vin de France classification allows the wine to sit outside stricter appellation boundaries while still expressing the character of its South-West origin.
The 2021 vintage is defined by tension, freshness and beautifully integrated sweetness. Aromas of dates, dried fruits, amber, warm spices, citrus and exotic fruit give the wine a layered and expressive profile. The palate is rich yet lifted, with the sweetness held firmly in check by electric acidity and mineral drive. Notes of apricot, quince, honey, citrus peel and spice unfold across a textured, off-dry frame. Despite its generosity, the wine avoids heaviness, finishing with precision, freshness and a long line of acidity. This makes it a compelling match for foie gras, blue cheese, duck with fruit, spiced Asian cuisine, fruit tarts and caramelised desserts. With its balance of sweetness, acidity and aromatic complexity, it is also well suited to careful cellaring and should gain further nuance over time.
