Perfumed elegance and savoury complexity define this distinguished Martinborough Pinot Noir from one of New Zealand’s leading producers. The 2025 Craggy Range Te Muna Road Pinot Noir is sourced from the estate’s Te Muna Road Vineyard in Martinborough, a site renowned for its ancient alluvial terraces, limestone influence and cool climate conditions ideally suited to Pinot Noir. Situated on the eastern side of the Ruamahanga River, the vineyard benefits from warm daytime temperatures and cool nights that allow for extended ripening and remarkable flavour precision.

The 2025 vintage reflects the clarity and refinement for which Te Muna Road Pinot Noir has become internationally recognised. In the glass, the wine shows vibrant red cherry and wild raspberry fruit layered with dried florals, spice and earthy mineral undertones. Craggy Range’s restrained winemaking approach, including careful small-batch fermentation and thoughtful oak maturation, preserves the vineyard’s aromatic purity and structural finesse. The palate is finely textured and energetic, combining supple tannins with bright natural acidity and savoury complexity. There is an underlying mineral tension that gives the wine both shape and persistence without sacrificing elegance. Subtle oak integration adds depth while allowing the site’s distinctive personality to remain at the forefront. Poised and expressive, this is a Pinot Noir that balances immediacy with sophistication, offering excellent drinking in its youth while retaining the structure to evolve beautifully over time.

      Craggy Range

In 1993, Terry Peabody and his wife Mary embarked on a mission to create a family legacy rooted in their passion for fine wine. Rather than purchasing an established vineyard, they sought out uncharted land, ultimately recognising the exceptional potential of New Zealand. Partnering with renowned viticulturist Steve Smith, they explored the country's finest winegrowing regions to realise their dream.

Their journey led them to the Gimblett Gravels Winegrowing District in Hawke’s Bay, where the warm, stony soils provide the perfect conditions for crafting premium reds such as Syrah and Merlot. They also discovered a spectacular site on Te Muna Road in Martinborough, known for its two distinct terraces. The higher terrace, with its ancient rocky clay soils, is ideal for Pinot Noir, while the younger gravelly soils of the lower terrace—infused with limestone—are perfect for producing an aromatic and minerally Sauvignon Blanc. Over time, Craggy Range wines have earned significant acclaim, including the title of New World Winery of the Year from Wine Enthusiast in 2014. Dedicated to ensuring their legacy endures, Terry Peabody has established a 1,000-year trust for the winery.

Under the leadership of Chief Winemaker Julian Grounds, Craggy Range was named the top winery in the 2023 Real Review, and the highest-ranked New Zealand and Australian winery in the 2022 World's Best Vineyards awards.
