Product Information:
The Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir captivates with its enticing aromas of boysenberry, cherry, and fragrant, dusky florals. As it graces the palate, the wine bursts with crunchy dark cherry, cranberry, and hedgerow fruit notes, enveloping the senses with an immediate sense of freshness. The tannins are exquisitely fine, effortlessly supporting the intense and succulent fruit character. Cloudy Bay's dedication to crafting exceptional wines has not gone unnoticed. Cloudy Bay's Pinot Noir is consistently recognised as a spirit worthy of comparison with the best in the world.
Maker:
In 1983 David Hohnen tasted his first Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Impressed with its quality, David began his journey to bottle the essence of Marlborough and share it with the world shortly after. He and winemaker Kevin Judd launched Cloudy Bay in 1985 to international acclaim, with a Sauvignon Blanc that put New Zealand wine on the map. Cloudy Bay joined Veuve Clicquot in 2003 and became part of the LVMH family in 2010.
While Cloudy Bay is widely recognised for its iconic Sauvignon Blanc, the brand has also been a steadfast advocate for Marlborough Pinot Noir. Their commitment to excellence is unwavering, consistently delivering a more restrained and elegant style compared to many other producers in New Zealand. Despite this refined approach, Cloudy Bay's Pinot Noir retains the power and drive associated with Burgundy. Cloudy Bay’s legacy began in Marlborough with Sauvignon Blanc and now includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pelorus méthode traditionnelle.
Philosophy:
Quality is paramount at Cloudy Bay. Making exceptional wines requires attention to detail in all aspects of wine production. In the vineyards, their yields are around 30% lower than the regional average. In the winery, we use technology, taste and experience to select only the best grapes for each wine. Favouring quality of quantity. Beyond the quality of our wines, Cloudy Bay cares about the protection of the land. Cloudy Bay is a founding member of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand. In Central Otago, our vineyards are farmed organically. Selected Estate blocks in Marlborough are trialing organic practices to roll out across the remaining vineyards.
