Clarence House Estate Reserve Pinot Noir 2023
Clarence House was built in 1830 on land which was originally the market garden for the city of Hobart. Present owner David Kilpatrick first planted vines on the north-east slopes of the property in 1998. Located in the foothills of the Meehan Ranges, halfway between Hobart and the Coal Valley, Clarence House Estate sits in a unique location atop Jurassic dolerite and basalt soils with low annual rainfall.
The 2023 Clarence House Estate Reserve Pinot Noir was produced by Anna Pooley and Justin Bubb at Pooley Wines. Planted across six blocks and utilizing a myriad of different clones. Wild fermentation with a small portion of whole bunches for perfume and structure. Aged in a combination of new and old French oak barriques and puncheons.
Typical red and dark berry fruits are prominent, with floral and spice notes. Medium bodied, erring on the slightly fuller side. Ample concentration is restrained within a lithe structure farmed by ripe yet fine tannins.
