Product Description
The 2023 Clarence House Estate Block 1 Pinot Noir is a standout release from one of Tasmania’s most distinctive vineyards. Grown on the north-east facing slopes of Clarence Plains, this wine embodies the region’s unique terroir, with its combination of floral, red, and black fruit aromas, forest elements, and mixed spices. The wine is a blend of clones 114, 115, and 777, sourced from the vineyard’s oldest block. The inclusion of 30% whole bunches of clone 777 in the fermentation, along with wild fermentation, enhances the complexity and depth of this wine. Aged in a mix of new and seasoned French oak puncheons, the wine achieves a seamless palate with fine tannins and a bright, energetic finish. This is the fifth release of the Block 1 Pinot Noir and continues to impress with its ability to be both enjoyed in its youth and cellared for years to come.
Maker
Clarence House is a historic estate located on the fertile lands of Clarence Plains in Tasmania. Established in 1830, it was originally the market garden for the City of Hobart, with vines first planted on its North-East slopes in 1998. Today, the estate is under the ownership of David Kilpatrick, who has overseen its transformation into a leading vineyard producing exceptional wines. Managed with an emphasis on sustainability and balance, Clarence House produces wines that reflect the unique terroir of Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. Through careful vineyard management and a deep respect for the environment, Clarence House’s wines consistently showcase purity, elegance, and the exceptional quality of the region’s fruit.
Philosophy
At Clarence House, the philosophy is to craft wines that truly reflect the unique characteristics of the vineyard and the seasons. The estate focuses on producing wines of great complexity and balance by working with a wide selection of grape varieties and clones, ensuring every wine is a true expression of its origin. The vineyard is managed using sustainable practices, with minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the winery. The goal is to allow the natural qualities of the fruit to shine through in every bottle, creating wines that are as individual and distinctive as the land they come from.
