      Product Description:
Depth, savoury complexity and muscular structure define the Chatto Killara Farm Pinot Noir 2025, a single-vineyard expression from Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. The fruit is grown by Gill Christian and Todd Goebel at their Brinktop Road vineyard in Penna, a warm and sunny site within the Coal River region. Killara Farm forms part of Chatto’s grower-wine collection and represents the darkest, fullest-bodied Pinot Noir style within the range. The 2025 wine is produced from equal portions of three Pinot Noir clones: MV6, D2V4 and D5V12. Each clone contributes a distinct element, with D2V4, also known as Pommard, providing muscular structure and depth. MV6 brings spice, tension and dried-herb complexity, while D5V12 contributes ripe red berry fruit and natural sweetness. Together, these components create a layered Pinot Noir that balances generosity with the precision and freshness associated with Jim Chatto’s winemaking.

The wine opens with clearly defined red plum and cherry aromas accompanied by floral, savoury and gently smoky nuances. Raspberry, cranberry and sweet berry characters add brightness, while dried herbs, exotic spice and earthy mushroom notes provide greater complexity. The palate is full and grounded for Pinot Noir, displaying substantial fruit depth without becoming heavy or overripe. Fine, powdery tannins give shape to the wine and reinforce its distinctly mineral character. Bright acidity preserves energy through the mid-palate and supports the wine’s rich Coal River fruit profile. Its combination of concentration, tannin and savoury detail suggests that the 2025 release will benefit from additional time in bottle. Although expressive upon release, a few years of cellaring should allow its muscular structure to soften and its spice and earthy characters to integrate further. The result is a confident, deeply flavoured Tasmanian Pinot Noir with impressive harmony, persistence and regional identity.
