Château de la Tour Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes 2006
Château de la Tour is the biggest producer in Clos Vougeot, and typically produces wines built for the long term. These plots are managed organically, and the age of the vines is between 60 and 100+ years old. These factors, along with the use of 100% whole bunch ,makes for a concentrated, tight and long living wine. If drinking young, it will benefit from decanting or allowing it to unfold in the glass. This is a wine that is elegant, savoury, earthy, and mineral. Showing red and blue fruits, ironstone, floral. The tannins are well integrated but pretty firm. Everything is there, in correct proportions and balance. It is satisfying and complete, yet it is still evolving.
“As with the '07 examples, the nose is quite similar to its '06 counterpart though here the fruit is denser and perhaps ever so slightly riper and leads to serious, driving, vibrant and superbly well balanced concentrated and broad-shouldered flavors blessed with plenty of dry extract and well-integrated wood. A terrific example that is built to age. Recommended and very promising” 93 points Burghound
