Precision, elegance and profound site expression define this exceptional single-vineyard Brunello from one of Montalcino’s most revered crus. The Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli 2021 is sourced exclusively from the celebrated Montosoli vineyard, a historic hillside regarded as one of the finest sites in the entire appellation. Positioned on the northern side of Montalcino, Montosoli is renowned for producing wines of remarkable aromatic complexity, mineral tension and longevity. The 2021 vintage provided ideal conditions for Sangiovese, delivering fruit of outstanding purity, concentration and balance.
Fermented in stainless steel and matured in large Slavonian oak casks, the wine reflects Canalicchio di Sopra’s commitment to preserving vineyard character above all else. Layers of red cherry, wild berry fruit, dried flowers, spice and savoury mineral notes unfold with impressive clarity and detail. The palate is structured yet graceful, supported by vibrant acidity and refined tannins that provide both energy and ageing potential. While already displaying remarkable harmony, this Brunello possesses the depth and precision to reward decades of cellaring. It stands as a benchmark expression of the Montosoli cru, combining power, finesse and terroir transparency in equal measure. A superb companion to game, roasted meats, truffle dishes and mature cheeses.

The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Montosoli is impossible to ignore. It opens with a distinctly savory bouquet of ashen stones, rosemary, dusty violets and crushed blackberries. Elegant in style, it floods the palate with polished red berry fruits, violet tones and silken textures. The 2021 tapers off harmoniously with excellent length, leaving edgy tannins to pinch the cheeks as nuances of sour cherry fade. This is an understated yet deeply complex beauty, and easily one of the wines of the vintage. Drinking window 2028 - 2044.
The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Montosoli captures the identity of this site with clarity and tension. The nose is lifted and pure, it has tightly coiled tannins and brisk acidity, finishing with bright orange peel, mineral drive, and mouthwatering salinity. It’s going to require some patience, but it will have a lot of aging potential over the next 20 years.
The 2021 Vigna Montosoli from Canalicchio di Sopra is absolutely gorgeous, starting with its beautiful aromas of violet, lavender, Mediterranean scrub, perfumed berry and sandalwood. Elegantly structured and showing great intensity, the savoury palate delivers succulent marasca cherry, wild raspberry, liquorice and blood orange underpinned by mint and saline minerality. Tightly woven, velvety tannins and fresh acidity keep it impeccably balanced.
Founded by Primo Pacenti in 1962, Canalicchio di Sopra has been a family-run estate for over six decades. In 1987, Primo was joined by his son-in-law Pier Luigi Ripaccioli, and since 2001, Pier Luigi's children—Francesco, Simonetta, and Marco—have taken the helm. The estate produces both Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino, drawing from the esteemed Canalicchio and Montosoli parcels on the northern side of Montalcino, which together total 19 hectares of vineyards.
The soils in the Canalicchio parcels are predominantly clay with pebbles and a strong mineral content, resulting in wines with aromatic intensity, opulence, and minerality. The Casaccia parcel is particularly notable for its extraordinary elegance, latent power, balance, and silky tannins, which often see it bottled separately. The Rosso di Montalcino is made from the estate's younger vineyards and represents the winery's calling card—a fresh, fruity, and versatile expression of Sangiovese. The first vintage was produced in 1975, when it was still referred to as "Red Wine from Brunello vines."

For over 50 years, Canalicchio di Sopra has pursued the quest for elegance, which lies at the core of their winemaking philosophy. From cultivating their own Cru vineyards to choosing unique microclimates that naturally limit grape yields, every step is taken with care and precision to highlight the distinctive characteristics of their terroir.
The estate focuses solely on Sangiovese, embracing the grape’s ability to express the unique traits of their Canalicchio and Montosoli vineyards. By working closely with these differences in terrain, exposure, and microclimates, Canalicchio di Sopra has built a strong identity, defined by their classical yet distinct wines. Their 19 hectares of vineyards yield wines that are elegant, powerful, mineral-rich, and refreshing, with notable acidity and purity—a true reflection of the land, climate, and people who shape them.
