Camille Giroud, a Swiss wine merchant, marries Miss Deschamps and takes over her family's wine trade firm, which he renames Maison Giroud Deschamps. In 1903, the company becomes known as Camille Giroud and establishes its premises in Beaune. Unlike other wine merchants, Camille only buys musts and finished wines, relying on his talent as a wine maturer to establish the reputation of his company. After Camille's death, his youngest son, Lucien, takes over and maintains the family tradition. In the 1990s, the company faces financial difficulties and Bernard and François Giroud begin to buy grapes instead of purchasing wine. David Croix joins the Maison in 2001, launching new projects and building a new vat house. In 2002, Ann Colgin and other investors take over the company, with David Croix named as Manager in 2007. The Maison remains exclusive and pursues new projects under the leadership of Carel Voorhuis.
Vosne-Romanée is a village with exceptional renown due to its rich history. Monks who settled in Cîteaux in 1098 owned prestigious climats located around the village. The Dukes of Burgundy had a hunting meeting place located in Vosne, and Louis-Ferdinand de Bourbon purchased La Romanée in 1760, which was to produce the legendary wine Romanée-Conti. In 1866, an Imperial decree authorized the wine-producing villages of the Côte to join their name to that of the greatest growth of the jurisdiction, and Vosne became Vosne-Romanée. The village takes its name from a derivative of Vidumos, a Gallic word meaning forests. The origin of Chalandins remains unknown.
Camille Giroud Vosne-Romaneé Les Chalandins 2020 comes from a vine located in Flagey-Echezeaux in the district called Les Chalandins, which is a neighbour of the lower part of Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot. It faces South-East and is planted at an altitude of 245 meters in a deep clay-silt soil on marls from Bresse. Camille Giroud Vosne-Romanée Les Chalandins 2020 is a ruby-colored wine with a medium raspberry red nose and intense aromas of dark berries and cherries, complemented by notes of spice rack, minerals and gentle dark florals. On the palate, it is mineral, pure and refined, with dryness, medium acidity and a medium body. The wine has low tannins and a long fruit finish, making it an elegant and ornate wine of outstanding quality. This wine is an excellent pairing for beef, veal, game, and poultry dishes.
