Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Heavily Peated Islay Barley Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml (2012 Release)
This high provenance, heavily-peated single malt was distilled from Islay-grown barley in 2012. A total of eight Islay farms came together to harvest the 2011 crop for Port Charlotte over a tempestuous summer.
The nose on this whisky begins with sandy sea breeze and fresh linen. Apple sauce, zesty lemon, crunch pear, and a green fruit signature follow. The aroma speaks to the spirit, the distillation, and the barley. The palate is sweet and soft on the lips, and begins with a thin honey style slipping across the palate. Then there is more from the cask with milk chocolate, vanilla, black pepper, and light cedar. Warmed scones and honey from the malt wrapped in earthy smoke and soft apricot. creamy, minty, tablet brings a sweetness and a warm salty sand hint of Islay. The finish is coconut and peat smoke, mildly iodine-y and hints of almond and geranium. The peat smoke gently fades away.
