The Balvenie 19 Year Old A Revelation of Cask and Character is a limited-edition Speyside single malt created to demonstrate the profound influence that carefully selected oak can have on whisky maturation. Matured for its entire 19 years in European oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks, it is the first expression in The Balvenie Stories range to receive complete sherry-cask maturation. The release also represents the first Balvenie whisky designed solely by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie following her years of training alongside David C. Stewart MBE. Its story pays tribute to the traditional craft of coopering and to the specialist craftspeople responsible for maintaining the distillery’s valuable cask inventory. The Balvenie is one of the relatively few Scotch whisky distilleries to operate its own on-site cooperage, allowing close collaboration between its whisky-making and coopering teams. For this expression, the distillery also drew upon relationships with Spanish cask suppliers and cooperages in the sherry-producing region of Jerez.

Extended maturation in European oak allows the whisky to develop a richly fruited profile while retaining the honeyed malt character associated with The Balvenie. Intense ripe fruit and caramelised orange peel introduce the aroma, accompanied by toasted oak and freshly milled barley. Currants, cherries and raisins create a concentrated dark-fruit character across the palate before developing into chewy fig and rich cacao. Creamy nut flavours balance the deeper fruit and oak elements, contributing texture and refinement. Rather than being transferred between different cask types, the whisky derives its complexity from the sustained interaction between the spirit, European oak and Oloroso sherry seasoning. Bottled at 47.5% ABV, it possesses sufficient strength to carry its fruit, spice and oak character without losing balance. The finish is long and lingering, allowing the sherry-derived fruit, cacao and nutty elements to remain after each sip.
