Domaine Marquis d'Angerville has been in the same family for more than 200 years, with six generations shaping an estate closely tied to the vineyards of Volnay.
Today, the domaine farms 11.5 hectares of Volnay Premier Cru, including its historic Clos des Ducs monopole, alongside holdings in Taillepieds, Champans, Clos des Chênes, Caillerets and other sites. Its wider range extends beyond Volnay, offering a broader perspective on Burgundy through regional and neighbouring appellations.
Under Guillaume d'Angerville and estate manager François Duvivier, the focus remains firmly on the vineyard: biodynamic farming, detailed work within individual parcels and restrained winemaking intended to preserve the character of site and vintage.
Volnay
Sitting in the Côte de Beaune between Pommard and Meursault, Volnay is particularly associated with Pinot Noir and contains a remarkable concentration of Premier Cru vineyards.
Domaine Marquis d'Angerville is deeply embedded in that landscape. Rather than offering a single expression of Volnay, its holdings provide a view across multiple climats, each bringing different exposures, soils and positions on the slope.
That makes the domaine particularly interesting to explore as a range. The differences between Clos des Ducs, Taillepieds, Champans and Clos des Chênes become part of the story rather than simply different labels from the same producer.
Clos des Ducs
At the centre of the domaine is Clos des Ducs, a Volnay Premier Cru monopole owned entirely by Domaine Marquis d'Angerville.
The vineyard sits immediately behind the domaine in Volnay and has remained closely associated with the d'Angerville family across generations.
As a monopole, Clos des Ducs offers something relatively unusual in Burgundy: a recognised Premier Cru climat under the control of a single domaine. It is both the historic centrepiece of the estate and one of its most important expressions of Volnay.
Taillepieds, Champans & Clos des Chênes
Beyond Clos des Ducs, Domaine Marquis d'Angerville holds parcels across several of Volnay's important Premier Cru climats.
Taillepieds occupies a steep, well-drained position on the Volnay slope. Champans provides another distinct expression of the village, while Clos des Chênes sits among Volnay's best-known Premier Cru sites.
The domaine's holdings allow these vineyards to be explored side by side, with the same viticultural and winemaking philosophy applied across markedly different sites.
Rather than treating Premier Cru as a single stylistic category, the range shows why individual climat matters so much in Burgundy.
Caillerets & the Wider Volnay Holdings
The domaine's Volnay holdings extend further through vineyards including Caillerets, adding another perspective to its detailed picture of the village.
Together, these wines reflect the unusually fragmented nature of Burgundy. Small changes in elevation, exposure, slope and soil can define a separate climat, even when neighbouring vineyards sit only a short distance apart.

Bourgogne & Beyond Volnay
While Volnay forms the heart of Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, the range is not limited to its Premier Cru Pinot Noir.
Regional wines, including Bourgogne Aligoté, provide a different entry point into the domaine. The Aligoté comes from the lieu-dit Monpoulain on the eastern side of Volnay, where deeper clay-rich soils and flatter terrain contrast with the domaine's hillside Premier Cru vineyards.
These wines broaden the picture of d'Angerville beyond its most recognised bottlings and offer another way to follow the domaine's approach across variety, appellation and site.
Pinot d'Angerville
The family's influence in Volnay extends beyond its vineyard holdings.
During the early 20th century, Sem and Jacques d'Angerville undertook detailed selection work within their vineyards, identifying Pinot Noir vines that combined particularly fine fruit with naturally low yields.
The resulting selection became known as Pinot d'Angerville and forms part of the domaine's viticultural legacy.
It is a useful reminder that the estate's history is not simply one of inherited vineyards. Successive generations have actively worked to understand, preserve and refine the plant material within them.
Biodynamics at Domaine Marquis d'Angerville
The domaine began converting its vineyards to biodynamic farming in 2006, completing the process in 2009.
Soils are worked by plough and vineyard treatments are based on natural preparations. When vineyards are uprooted, parcels may be rested with alfalfa for several years before replanting, allowing the soil time to regenerate.
The objective is ultimately practical: healthy soils and vines capable of expressing the differences between individual vineyards as clearly as possible.
In the cellar, that same philosophy translates to relatively restrained handling, including gravity transfer, measured use of new oak and extended élevage.
A Family Domaine in Volnay
Guillaume d'Angerville represents the sixth generation of the family at Domaine Marquis d'Angerville.
Together with estate manager François Duvivier, he continues an approach built around long-term stewardship rather than dramatic changes from one generation to the next.
The domaine retains control of its own vineyard work and produces its wines exclusively from vineyards it farms, allowing decisions in the vineyard and cellar to remain closely connected.
More than 200 years after the family first established itself in Volnay, that continuity remains fundamental to the identity of Domaine Marquis d'Angerville.
