Clase Azul México brings together two forms of Mexican craftsmanship: the production of tequila and mezcal, and the creation of the distinctive decanters in which they are presented.
Founded in Guadalajara in 1997 by Arturo Lomelí, Clase Azul began with a vision to share Mexican culture through spirits, art and design. Its now-recognisable white ceramic decanter with cobalt-blue detailing became the foundation of a collection that has expanded across different agave spirits, maturation styles and artistic collaborations.
Our Clase Azul range spans Plata, Reposado, Añejo, Gold and Ultra, alongside mezcals from Guerrero, Durango and San Luis Potosí. It also includes special releases such as Día de Muertos, Spirit of Champions and other limited editions, where the decanter becomes an important part of the release itself.
The Story of Clase Azul México
Clase Azul was founded in 1997 with a focus on presenting Mexican heritage through both the spirit and its vessel.
The original white and cobalt-blue decanter established a visual identity that remains closely associated with the house. Over time, the collection has developed into an exploration of regional materials, artisanal techniques and Mexican cultural traditions.
While the decanters are immediately recognisable, the range also offers considerable diversity in the glass, from unaged tequila through to extended oak maturation and mezcals made from different agave species.
Clase Azul & Mexican Craftsmanship
The decanter is central to the Clase Azul identity.
Working with Mexican artisans, the house develops vessels that draw on ceramic traditions, sculptural forms and decorative techniques. The design changes considerably across the collection, from the familiar Reposado decanter to the more elaborate presentations created for Ultra and limited editions.
This relationship between spirit and vessel is particularly important to understanding Clase Azul. The presentation is not simply packaging, but part of the broader creative expression of each release.
Clase Azul Plata
Clase Azul Plata offers an introduction to the house's tequila without the influence of extended oak maturation.
As a blanco tequila, it places the character of blue Weber agave at the centre, providing a contrast to the richer, oak-influenced expressions elsewhere in the range.
For those exploring Clase Azul beyond its signature Reposado, Plata offers a useful starting point.
Clase Azul Reposado
Clase Azul Reposado is the house's most recognisable expression.
Made from blue Weber agave and matured in oak, it brings together the character of the agave with the softer, rounded qualities developed through ageing.
Its white ceramic decanter, finished with cobalt-blue decoration, has become closely associated with Clase Azul around the world.
Our range includes the classic 750ml Reposado alongside the larger 1.75L format, extending the signature expression into a more substantial presentation.
Clase Azul Añejo & Ultra
Ageing plays a defining role in some of the more mature Clase Azul tequilas.
Clase Azul Añejo explores the influence of longer oak maturation, with greater emphasis on developed flavour, texture and complexity.
Clase Azul Ultra takes that approach considerably further. As an extra añejo tequila, it represents one of the house's most mature expressions, presented in an elaborate decanter that reflects its position within the range.
These releases provide a different perspective on Clase Azul from Plata and Reposado, placing maturation and the interaction between agave spirit and oak at the centre.
Clase Azul Gold
Clase Azul Gold brings together different tequila styles in a single expression, moving beyond the conventional categories of blanco, reposado and añejo.
The result is a distinct interpretation of the house style, with the character of the blend reflected in its specially designed decanter.
Our collection includes Gold alongside the core aged tequilas and selected limited releases.
Clase Azul Mezcal
Beyond tequila, Clase Azul explores the diversity of Mexico's agave spirits through its mezcal collection.
Unlike tequila, which is made from blue Weber agave within designated production regions, mezcal can be produced from a wider range of agave species using regional methods and traditions.
Our range includes Clase Azul Mezcal Guerrero, Durango and San Luis Potosí, each offering a different expression of agave, geography and production.
Together, they demonstrate that mezcal is not a single flavour profile, but a broad category shaped by place, raw material and technique.
Mezcal Guerrero, Durango & San Luis Potosí
The three regional mezcals provide a particularly interesting way to explore the Clase Azul collection.
Mezcal Guerrero is produced using Papalote agave, reflecting the traditions and landscape of the state of Guerrero.
Mezcal Durango uses Cenizo agave, a species associated with the region's high-altitude terrain and local mezcal production.
Mezcal San Luis Potosí is made from Green Agave, also known as Salmiana, and offers a further contrast in character and regional identity.
Each is presented in a distinctive decanter developed to reflect its place of origin, reinforcing the relationship between spirit, region and craftsmanship.
Clase Azul Limited Editions
Limited editions form a significant part of the Clase Azul collection.
These releases may explore a particular cultural tradition, artistic collaboration, commemorative occasion or distinctive approach to tequila production.
Our range includes Ahumado Tequila Blanco, Spirit of Champions and selected Día de Muertos editions, alongside other special releases.
Some introduce a distinct spirit, while others place particular emphasis on the artistic concept and decanter. Each should be considered individually, especially when comparing editions for collecting.
Día de Muertos
The Clase Azul Día de Muertos series draws on one of Mexico's most significant cultural traditions, honouring remembrance and the enduring connection between the living and those who have passed.
Each annual release explores a different creative theme, expressed through the tequila, decanter and accompanying presentation.
Our collection includes Día de Muertos 2024 Música and 2025 Nuestros Recuerdos, representing different chapters within the series.
For collectors, the year and edition are particularly important, as each release has its own artistic identity.
Clase Azul for Collectors
Clase Azul occupies an unusual position at the intersection of premium spirits and decorative art.
The range includes established expressions available across multiple formats, alongside limited editions distinguished by their design, production and release history.
For collectors, details such as edition, year, decanter, presentation and condition can be as relevant as the tequila or mezcal itself.
Our collection extends from the familiar Reposado through to Ultra, regional mezcals and limited releases, providing several ways to explore the house.
