A new release under the Singleton label from Glen Ord (a major contributor to the Johnnie Walker Blends). Less spicy, more mature, slightly darker in colour, and deeper in flavour than the 12-year-old; the house style of the distillery is nicely represented here. Matured in a mix of oak with a significant input from European oak ex-sherry casks.
The palate offers notes of fresh tangerine and peaches, before enduring notes of smoked meats, burnt caramel, and sultry Asian spices come to the fore, all notes largely driven by the recharred barrels. The finish is a bit brooding but never short of engaging, a classically Highlands mix of sweet and savory in delightful balance.
