Domaine de Chatillon Mondeuse 2017
Domaine de Chatillon sits on the edge of France’s largest freshwater lake Lac de Bourget, nestled up against the French side of The Alps and is inspired by the 11th Century Castle that overlooks the lake.
The Savoie region produces some of the most vibrant, fresh and mineral wines in all of France but are little known outside the country, as most of the wines are consumed locally and in the French ski fields. Savoie also offers the opportunity to discover a new wine region at surprisingly affordable prices with many of the best examples retailing for less than $35 a bottle in Australia.
While Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gamay and Cabernet are planted in the region, it is mainly the indigenous grapes of Altesse, Jacquere and Mondeuse that dominate and produce the most interesting local wines.
is a dark skinned red wine grape with a firm tannin structure that is loaded with spice, black fruits and minerality.
The 2017 Chatillon Mondeuse has a wonderful deep purple colour with savoury cherry fruit and spice run through with minerality and a lovely alpine freshness. A versatile food wine Mondeuse pairs well with cheeses, mushroom dishes and charcuterie such as salami and bresaola.
