A flagship parcel in a bottle built for centre stage.
Christian Moreau Père et Fils’ 2023 Les Clos is a benchmark Chablis, drawn from a rare 2.9-hectare holding that runs uninterrupted from the base to the crest of the Grand Cru slope. It’s the largest single parcel in Les Clos, home to 45–75 year old vines, and it delivers the full depth and nuance of this storied terroir. Under Fabien Moreau’s stewardship, the domaine blends deep-rooted tradition with a sharp modern edge.
Vinification splits between one-third barrel (just 10% new) and two-thirds stainless steel, dialling in tension and structure. The 2023 vintage required precision—after dodging frost and mildew, a late heatwave made picking windows critical. The resulting wine is detailed, mineral, and complex. In a rare 3 L Jeroboam, this release isn’t just age-worthy—it’s a statement.

The quality here is again so good that I’m tempted to say that Chablis has yet another leading light to add to the usual stars of Raveneau and Dauvissat.
To me, the 2023’s have more character than the 2016s and are less exotic than the 2018s. But each vintage is unique so I expect that the 2023s will develop their own personality as well.
Domaine Christian Moreau is a historic name in Chablis, with the current generation led by Christian Moreau and his son Fabien Moreau, who carry on the family’s legacy. With nearly 8 hectares of Grand Cru holdings out of Chablis’ total 92 hectares, this small but exceptional estate has become one of the leading producers of Chablis, consistently crafting remarkable wines. Although their holdings in Petit, Village, and Premier Cru Chablis are relatively small, the estate’s true highlights lie in its Grand Cru vineyards. They own approximately 3 hectares in Les Clos, 0.41 hectares in Clos des Hospices dans Les Clos, as well as smaller holdings in Valmur, Blanchots, and Vaudésir. Domaine Christian Moreau continues to produce must-try wines from the classic climats of Chablis.
These exceptional vineyard sites, combined with old vines, meticulous winemaking and careful attention to every step of production, have resulted in wines that are widely regarded as some of the finest in Chablis.
In the vineyard, they employ ploughing, organic fertilisers, and have maintained a pesticide-free environment since 2004, alongside daily care to prevent disease. Since 2005, they have transitioned to organic agriculture across the vineyard, achieving Ecocert certification with the 2013 vintage. This commitment to sustainability has further enhanced the expression of their vineyards.
Harvesting is done entirely by hand, with careful selection of grapes before pressing. Vinification relies solely on natural yeasts, with a balanced use of oak barrels and stainless steel tanks to highlight each wine's unique expression. They implement a comprehensive yield management strategy to enhance grape concentration and showcase the terroir. With investments in new tanks and other winemaking techniques, their cellar is equipped for separate vinification of each parcel accurately represent terroir. The results are evident in each vintage.
The wines of Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils are known for their precision, clear typicity and elegance. They have the ability to age gracefully while providing immense pleasure throughout their lives Fabien Moreau, who took over as winemaker in 2002, has already made a significant impact. With previous experience in New Zealand and a deep respect for terroir, Fabien is a visionary winemaker. The wines of Christian Moreau Pere et Fils are authentic, distinctive and of exceptional quality.
Fresh notes of acacia, oyster shell, and iodine lifted by a subtle frame of oak.
Big-bodied and intense with layered texture and a clear vein of minerality.
A sustained, powerful finish with a whisper of warmth and faint tannic grip—cellaring will reward.
