The 2024 Bubb + Pooley Pinot Noir in magnum is a fresh chapter in Tasmanian Pinot, shaped by two of the state’s most experienced winemakers. Crafted by Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley, the wine draws from carefully chosen sites across the Coal River Valley, a cool-climate region known for producing Pinot Noir of clarity and drive. The soils here, a mix of alluvial deposits, sandstone and clay, deliver fruit with both brightness and structure, perfectly suited to the pair’s hands-off, terroir-focused style.
Fermented and raised in concrete, the wine carries a textural, seamless flow that reflects Bubb + Pooley’s philosophy: to make wines that are raw, expressive and true to their origins. The magnum format lends added poise and ageing potential, with the Pinot’s layered fruit, fine tannins and natural freshness promising graceful development over time. This release captures both the energy of Tasmania’s landscape and the quiet assurance of two winemakers at the height of their craft.

Bubb + Pooley was founded in 2021 by Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley, two Tasmanian winemakers with more than two decades of international and local experience each. Anna studied at the University of Adelaide before shaping her craft with respected producers in South Australia, Austria and Tuscany, later returning to Tasmania where she held senior winemaking roles. Justin’s path has been equally global, with formative years spent in Italy and extensive work across Australian regions.
In 2022 they secured their own vineyard at Campania in the Coal River Valley, with mature Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet vines first planted in 2000. Alongside their estate, they draw on trusted vineyard partners across Tasmania, selecting parcels that best reflect site and season. In the winery they favour restrained use of oak, indigenous fermentations and concrete vessels, a measured approach that highlights precision and texture while keeping the focus firmly on fruit and place.
Bubb + Pooley is built on a commitment to making wines that are honest to site and respectful of the environment. Sustainability is central to their approach, shaping decisions from vineyard management to winemaking practices. The use of concrete eggs and tulips, chosen for their ability to build texture without influence from oak, reflects a broader philosophy of letting fruit and place speak with clarity.
Minimal intervention underpins their work, with indigenous yeast ferments, gentle handling and modest oak regimes allowing each parcel to retain its individuality. The goal is refinement rather than artifice, creating wines that balance purity with depth and are built for longevity.
At the heart of the philosophy is a sense of responsibility — to the land, to the growers they collaborate with, and to the future of Tasmanian wine. Every vintage is approached as an opportunity to improve, seeking out ways to reduce impact while producing wines that are both precise and expressive.
Red berries and subtle floral notes, with spice and earthy nuance.
Vibrant fruit framed by fine tannins, with a smooth, seamless flow from the use of concrete vessels.
Balanced acidity and savoury detail carry through on a long, precise finish.
