Founded in Aÿ in 1584, Gosset is recognised as the oldest wine house in Champagne. Its history begins with Pierre Gosset, winemaker and alderman of Aÿ, and extends across 16 generations of the Gosset family.
Today, the House remains known for a distinctly vinous approach to Champagne. Its style is built around the balance between mineral freshness and depth, with winemaking designed to preserve the natural character and acidity of the fruit.
Gosset draws from vineyards across the Champagne region, giving the House a broad palette of crus from which to build its blends. Under Cellar Master Odilon de Varine, the range moves from Grande Réserve and Grand Rosé through Chardonnay-led Blanc de Blancs to vintage Grand Millésime.
The Gosset Style
Gosset approaches Champagne first as wine.
A defining element of the House style is the preservation of natural freshness during vinification, including the avoidance of malolactic fermentation. By retaining rather than softening the wine's natural acidity, Gosset builds Champagnes with freshness, structure and the capacity to develop with extended ageing.
This freshness is balanced by vinosity and depth, creating a style that can feel more structured and gastronomic than overtly fruit-driven.
Gosset Grande Réserve
Gosset Grande Réserve NV is the signature expression of the House and a natural introduction to the Gosset style.
Structured, generous and fresh, it brings together the principal Champagne varieties in a blend designed to balance fruit, maturity and mineral tension.
Our collection includes Grande Réserve in both 750ml and 1.5L magnum formats, making it equally suited to drinking, entertaining and gifting.
Gosset Grand Blanc de Blancs
Gosset Grand Blanc de Blancs is made entirely from Chardonnay selected from different Champagne crus where chalk plays an important role in the vineyard.
Fruit is drawn from sites across the Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne, creating a Blanc de Blancs that brings together citrus and white-floral character with freshness and a distinctly saline finish.
The wine receives a minimum of four years of cellar ageing before release, giving it additional depth while retaining the precision associated with Chardonnay.
Gosset Grand Rosé
Gosset Grand Rosé places Chardonnay at the centre of the blend, complemented by Pinot Noir vinified as both white and red wine.
The relatively high proportion of Chardonnay gives the Rosé freshness and precision, while Pinot Noir contributes fruit, structure and colour.
Like the Grand Blanc de Blancs, it receives a minimum of four years of cellar ageing, producing a rosé Champagne that retains the freshness and vinous character associated with Gosset.
Gosset Grand Millésime
Gosset Grand Millésime captures the character of an individual harvest through the House style.
Unlike the consistency sought in a non-vintage blend, each Millésime reflects the particular conditions of its year. Chardonnay contributes finesse and freshness, while Pinot Noir provides fruit and structure.
Our collection currently includes Gosset Grand Millésime 2015 and 2016, offering the opportunity to compare two consecutive vintage expressions from the House.
The Gosset Antique Bottle
Gosset's distinctive bottle has become one of the House's most recognisable signatures.
The design traces back to 1760, when Jean Gosset first used the antique bottle that would later become an emblem of the Maison. Its curved form and antique-glass colour reference an ancestral bottle from the Gosset family's collection.
The bottle is finished with Gosset's distinctive necklace medallion, reinforcing a visual identity that has become closely associated with the House.
Choosing a Gosset Champagne
For a first introduction to the House, Gosset Grande Réserve provides the clearest expression of its balance between freshness and vinosity.
Grand Blanc de Blancs places greater emphasis on Chardonnay, chalk and mineral precision, while Grand Rosé combines Chardonnay-led freshness with the fruit and structure of Pinot Noir.
For those interested in vintage Champagne, Grand Millésime offers a more specific expression of an individual harvest and the way Gosset interprets it.
