The Yangarra Ovitelli Grenache 2019 is a wine of exceptional quality, sourced from the most perfumed and elegant Grenache from the sands at Yangarra. The vibrant fruit of those dry-grown 1946 bush vines is rewarded with a long, luxurious ferment and a whole autumn on skins in big ceramic eggs. The 2019 growing season was very dry, resulting in incredibly low yields. The relatively warm lead-up to the ripening period produced a very condensed and fast harvest. These late ripening varieties fared very well in a season like this, giving rise to concentration, freshness of flavor and marked natural acidity. Sourced from Block 30, planted in 1946 and adjacent to the High Sands block, the grapes were hand-picked and mechanically berry sorted. 100% destemmed, crushed and tipped into 675L ceramic eggs, the fermentation occurred in the eggs and remained on skins for 158 days post-fermentation. No pressings were used in this wine. No oak maturation was used and it was matured exclusively in the eggs for another 5 months. In the glass, the Yangarra Ovitelli Grenache 2019 is a bright, clear ruby color, with aromas of red cherries, raspberries and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with flavors of red fruit, herbs and a touch of earthiness. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, and the finish is long and satisfying.
Incredible colour, just a few pay grades up from rose. So bright and vibrant to look at. All raised in ceramic eggs, 101 days on skins, righteous work with grenache. Rose hip tea, lipstick, cherry and dried herb scents. So pure, shimmering, silky and yet wrapped in a web of ultra fine, wet stone tannins. Magnificent texture. Purity, drive, vibrancy, a beautiful lightweight yet detailed wine of incredible energy and poise. So delicious. So very, very good. World beating stuff.
