Product Description:
A traditional wine, easy to drink, which comes from a blend of Dolcetto grapes from the vineyards of the Einaudi estates which surround Dogliani. In particular in the vineyards positioned in the hills of San Luigi, San Giacomo and Madonna delle Grazie. In the Dogliani area this traditional varietal reaches its maximal typicity. Ruby red in colour, which tends toward violet with a rich fruity bouquet, full bodied with an intense aroma of undergrowth and a pleasantly tannic taste, with a slight almond note, typical of this varietal.
Fermented in steel and concrete tanks under strict temperature control (28°C), racked after 4/5 days, decanted, gotten malolactic treatment and completed at a controlled temperature. Decanted a number of times during maturation in steel and concrete tanks, bottled from the month of February and ready for to be consumed at the beginning of summer.
Maker:
Founded by Luigi Einaudi, during his time as Governor of Banca d’Italia and President of Italy after the second world war, it is said he never missed a harvest! His son Roberto succeeded him, but it was Roberto’s daughter Paola, on her return from Milano to Dogliani at the end of the 1980s, who with tenacity, enthusiasm and significant investment, re-launched this historic brand and went about improving wine quality.
Today it is her son, fourth generation Matteo Sardagna, who is at the helm. Long sojourns in the Langhe as a child with his grandfather and mother left Matteo with a deeply-rooted passion for the family’s values and customs. Today the winery is equipped with unique cement egg-like fermenting tanks, and botti of varying sizes and age so that Matteo and his team can produce wines which reflect their terroir, and the traditional style of the region and the estate.
Vineyard:
After achieving DOCG excellence for the Dolcetto and garnering interest beyond local borders – Luigi Einaudi bought the first hectares of Nebbiolo, first in Barolo and then in Neive. Through later acquisitions in Barolo, Luigi's successors fulfilled his destiny by producing high-end Nebbiolo. Today the 13 farmhouses that make up the Poderi Luigi Einaudi lie in the crus that have been recognised historically as the best of the Langhe region in terms of exposure, position and the quality of the terrains, for a total of 150 hectares of land, 70 of which are used for the production of the wines.
The original heart of Poderi Luigi Einaudi is in Dogliani, on the hills that line the road that leads from Monchiero and Novello to the centre of the country, and in the area that leads to Monforte D’Alba and Belvedere Langhe, renowned for its terroir. More than 29 hectares largely devoted to Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, the rest cultivated with Merlot and Barbera. The site sits at between 300-400m above sea level and has an exposure than fans towards the south.
