Product Information
The 2022 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Hommage à Marguerite 1.5L is a wine that combines elegance, complexity, and a nod to history. This cuvée is a blend of Premier Crus from four exceptional sites in Saint-Aubin: Perrières, Combes, Créots, and Pitangerets, all pressed and vinified together. These vineyards span various exposures, lending the wine a delightful balance between richness and precision. The result is a wine with opulence, offering aromas of white flowers, crisp green apple, cereal notes, and the enticing sweetness of praline. On the palate, the wine is peachy, with a slightly creamier texture than other offerings from PYCM's Saint-Aubin wines, creating a smooth, refined finish that lingers beautifully.
This cuvée holds sentimental value for the family, created in 2016 in response to the frost that affected the region and named in honour of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s late grandmother, Marguerite. As with all PYCM white wines, the fruit is whole-bunch pressed and fermented with natural yeasts. The wine is aged on lees for up to 18 months in 350-litre barrels, with no lees stirring or filtration, ensuring that it retains purity and complexity while showcasing the full expression of its terroir.

Maker
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is one of the most celebrated winemakers in Burgundy, known for his exceptional ability to craft wines that reflect the unique character of their terroir. Pierre-Yves started his journey in the world of winemaking at Domaine Marc Colin, where he earned a reputation for his mastery of white wines. In 2001, he founded his own estate, combining vineyards from his family’s heritage with acquisitions from carefully selected plots in the region. The estate, which spans 13 hectares in some of Burgundy’s finest villages, produces wines predominantly from Chardonnay, with a small percentage of Pinot Noir and Aligoté.
The vineyards are managed organically, although Pierre-Yves does not seek certification. His approach to winemaking is minimalist, allowing nature to take its course. He employs whole-bunch pressing, natural yeast fermentation, and aging on lees without stirring or filtration to preserve the pure expression of each wine. Pierre-Yves is known for crafting wines with remarkable precision, elegance, and the ability to age gracefully, making his wines highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs worldwide.
Philosophy
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s philosophy is rooted in a deep respect for nature and the unique qualities of each vineyard. By allowing the natural yeasts to ferment the wine and avoiding fining and filtration, Pierre-Yves allows the character of each grape and each vineyard to shine through. The result is wines that are not only a reflection of their place but also embody the care and craftsmanship that goes into each bottle. His wines are celebrated for their clarity, purity, and ability to evolve with age, offering a glimpse into the future of fine wine from Burgundy.
Tasting Notes
Nose
White Flowers, Praline, Green Apple
The bouquet is immediately striking, with aromas of white flowers, pear, crisp green apple, and a touch of oatmeal. A hint of praline adds a sweet, creamy element, while a delicate chalky minerality lingers in the background, enhancing the wine’s aromatic complexity.
Palate
Peachy, Creamy, Minerally
Medium to full-bodied, the wine unfolds with a satiny texture that gives way to a fleshy core of fruit. Flavours of ripe peach and citrus are framed by chalky dry extract, giving the wine both richness and minerality. A nice balance of freshness and depth defines the mouthfeel, with a touch of creaminess rounding out the fruit profile.
Finish
Refined, Flinty, Lengthy
The finish is generous, with a fine, flinty edge and a crackling acidity that adds focus and length. A slight touch of youthful austerity emerges, allowing the wine to finish clean and precise. The wine’s fine length and balance suggest it will continue to evolve beautifully with time.
