Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Grandes Ruchottes 2023 is a remarkably poised and mineral-driven white Burgundy that captures both the refinement of the vineyard and the precision of the domaine’s winemaking philosophy. Sourced from a small parcel in the esteemed Les Grandes Ruchottes Premier Cru vineyard, this Chardonnay reflects the tension, purity and understated power for which Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has become internationally admired. The 2023 vintage combines generous fruit concentration with vibrant acidity, resulting in a wine of impressive depth and elegance. Aromatically, the wine opens with layers of citrus oil, white orchard fruit, acacia blossom and crushed stone, accompanied by subtle reductive notes that gradually unfold in the glass.
On the palate, the wine is textured and expansive without losing focus, showing remarkable balance between ripe fruit, saline minerality and energetic freshness. There is a refined intensity here, with citrus, pear and hazelnut nuances carried by a taut mineral backbone. The élevage is carefully judged, contributing complexity and structure while allowing the vineyard character to remain transparent and precise. Despite its richness, the wine retains an almost Puligny-like sense of linearity and tension, giving it exceptional ageing potential. The finish is long, layered and impeccably detailed, lingering with notes of lemon zest, chalk and gentle spice. This is a sophisticated Premier Cru Burgundy that will reward patience in the cellar while already displaying compelling harmony and finesse. It pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops, roasted poultry or fine cream-based dishes.

From a purchase of fruit. This is at once aromatically cool and airy yet definitely ripe with its combination of various white orchard fruit scents laced with hints of zest, anise and acacia blossom. The rich and gorgeously textured medium-bodied flavors possess both focused power and a prominent bead of minerality that adds a sense of lift to the balanced, sappy and citrus-tinged finale. Excellent and clearly built-to-age.
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Grandes Ruchottes 1er Cru has quite a bit of reduction on the nose, but there is real power in situ. The palate is well balanced with impressive depth, leaning more toward Puligny in style thanks to its more malic finish. This has fine tension but is a bit "aloof" at the moment. Give it time.
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes is from sourced grapes and offers up aromas of pear and orange oil mingled with notes of hazelnuts, white flowers and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it's charming and layered, with succulent acids and a saline finish.
Established as one of the young rising stars of Burgundy, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey in 2005 left his family Domaine, Marc Colin, where he gained a solid reputation for his outstanding white wines. Pierre-Yves took control of a share of the family vineyards (Domaine Marc Colin) from 2006 vintage. His first vintages have been made from vineyards and growers that he works closely with buying the wine as must and aging the wines in barrels which he has supplied. If the resulting wines meet his standards the barrels of wine purchased are then matured in his own cold cellar below his house in Chassagne Montrachet.
“This is not just one of the top domaines in the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is now well recognised as one of the greatest winemakers and domaines in the world. Consistently producing benchmark wines in each vintage.”

The Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate was born in 2001 from the association of Pierre-Yves Colin (son of Marc) and Caroline Morey (daughter of Jean-Marc). Today they operate 13 hectares in the villages of Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. Their production consists of 92% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Noir and 3% of Aligoté grape variety. Working about 2 hectares from the family heritage, the other plots have come from different acquisitions over the last fifteen years, as well as a few plots in Fermages.
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey’s philosophy is simple yet profound: to create wines that speak to the unique character of their terroir. By embracing organic and biodynamic farming practices, he ensures that his vines are in harmony with nature, allowing each vineyard’s potential to shine through in the wines. In the winery, Pierre-Yves follows a minimal intervention approach, letting the natural yeast drive fermentation and allowing the wines to mature on their lees to develop depth and complexity. His wines are celebrated for their purity, elegance, and their ability to age gracefully, reflecting the precision of his craftsmanship and the distinctive beauty of Burgundy’s finest vineyards.
