Pian delle Vigne has adopted the philosophy of aging in large casks that preserve the exceptional integrity of the Sangiovese berry and impart the vibrant elegance of Brunello to the wine. Brunello Pian delle Vigne is an extraordinary expression with great finesse.

For vinification, the harvested grapes were brought to the cellar, destemmed, gently crushed and transferred into stainless steel vats where alcoholic fermentation occurred. Maceration on the skins took place over a period of approximately 12 days at a controlled temperature of 28 °C (82 °F). After malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to oak barrels of varying capacities, between 30 and 80 hl, where it aged in the barrel for two years. Pian delle Vigne was then bottled and aged for a lengthy period before being released.

As for the result...the 2017's nose is complex offering notes of ripe red fruit and hints of plums and dates; developing into Mediterranean herbs, floral aromas of violets, a hint of spicy ginger and hot pepper chocolate. These aromatics transfer to the palate, its entry is soft and silky. An extremely pleasant wine that delivers balance and harmony with pleasing freshness that gives the wine length and richness of flavour. A compelling red.

Aromas of sweet cherries, flowers and dried orange peel follow through to a full body, yet it’s linear, tight and tense, with refined, polished tannins that frame the wine nicely. Give it a couple of years to come together.

    — James Suckling, 93 Points.

This opens with balsamic aromas of camphor and crushed mint that mingle with ripe black-skinned fruit and coconut. Full-bodied and already rather accessible, the smooth, concentrated palate offers dried cherry, licorice and espresso alongside enveloping, fine-grained tannins.

    — Wine Enthusiast, 92 Points.

This red delivers a nice contrast between fruity and savory elements, offering cherry and plum flavors matched by loam, sage and soy notes that are backed by solid, chalky tannins. Compact on the finish for now. Best from 2025.

    — Wine Spectator, 92 Points.

Mid ruby. A tiny bit herbal and with shy fruit on the nose. Hints of black tea leaves. Mellow, mature fruit on the palate and grainy tannins making their mark on the finish. Not the most energetic, but with good length.
