Product Description:
A tribute to heritage, carved from ancient soil and Angaston marble. The Henschke Marble Angel Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 comes from a vineyard steeped in family history and symbolism. Planted next to the now-closed Angaston marble quarry—once used by Julius Henschke for his angelic war memorial sculptures—this site in Light Pass draws from deep red clay and limestone, delivering Cabernet fruit with poise and concentration. It’s a wine shaped by geology, artistry, and six generations of winemaking mastery.
Crafted by Johann Henschke, with the guidance of Stephen and Prue, this release reflects a seamless blend of legacy and evolution. Certified sustainable and made using organic and biodynamic principles, the wine is a powerful yet elegant expression of Barossa Cabernet. Aged in French oak and unafraid to show its structure, it’s built for longevity, but strikingly expressive in youth.
The Maker
Henschke is one of Australia's most prestigious and historic wineries, with over 153 years and six generations of family ownership. Located in Keyneton, South Australia, within the renowned Eden Valley wine region, Henschke has built a legacy of crafting premium wines, including its iconic single-vineyard wines, Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone. Since 1862, the Henschke family has cultivated exceptional vineyards in the Eden Valley, Barossa Valley, and Adelaide Hills, with a focus on quality, sustainability, and innovation.
Stephen and Prue Henschke, the fifth-generation winemaker and viticulturist team, have led the winery since 1979, restoring native vegetation and adopting organic and biodynamic vineyard practices. The sixth generation, led by Johann Henschke, continues to honour the traditions of the past while embracing modern winemaking techniques to ensure Henschke remains a leader in fine wine production.
Henschke's commitment to sustainability and excellence has garnered numerous accolades, including the Wine Enthusiast's New World Winery of the Year (2021) and the Halliday Wine Companion's Winery of the Year. The winery has also been recognised with the Robert Parker Wine Advocate Green Emblem, highlighting its dedication to environmentally conscious practices.
Philosophy
Henschke’s philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that great wines are made in the vineyard. The winery has embraced organic and biodynamic farming practices, ensuring the health of the vines and the land for future generations. By working with nature rather than against it, they produce wines that are not only reflective of the place but also allow the true expression of the fruit to come through. The family’s attention to detail, commitment to quality, and respect for the environment have resulted in a portfolio of wines that have gained worldwide recognition for their excellence.

Reviews & Accolades
“Cabernet when it’s at its best brings power, structure and length but most importantly, it also brings flow. It makes the wine seem relaxed and enjoyable, even as it lays down the law. This Cabernet Sauvignon from Henschke mines that vein. It has a juicy, even-handed flow to it, it brings blackcurrant, peppercorn, tobacco and mint flavours to the table, and it makes its long finish seem effortless. In short, we’re in elite territory here.” – Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, 95 points
“Highlights deep color, bouquet of cold‑meat, black‑olive, pencil shavings, smoky notes; dense and textured palate with tightly packed tannins.” – Huon Hooke, The Real Review, 96 points
“Graceful, fruit-pure release” with blackberry, black cherry, cassis, spice, cedar, licorice; chocolatey, melting tannins and extended finish. – Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion, 95 points
“Notes of blackberry, mocha, marzipan, roasted nuts, supple tannins, firm claret‑style finish.” – Andrew Caillard MW, Vintage Journal, 95 points
“Fresh blackberry, dark chocolate, walnuts; full-bodied with firmly framed tannins, balanced acidity, plush dark fruit, earth and spices. Built to age but drinkable now.” – Ryan Montgomery, JamesSuckling.com, 94 points
