Bubb + Pooley Chardonnay 2024 is a refined cool-climate white wine from Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, crafted by winemaking duo Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley. Sourced from select vineyard parcels across the valley, the wine reflects the region’s limestone influence and maritime climate, delivering clarity, tension and natural balance. The 2024 vintage was fermented using a combination of concrete and French oak, with no malolactic conversion, preserving freshness and vibrancy while allowing subtle texture to develop. Lees contact contributes a gentle mid-palate weight without obscuring the wine’s precision. In the glass, it presents with aromatic restraint rather than overt richness, favouring purity and structure. The style is firmly modern and minimal-intervention, highlighting site expression over winemaking artefact. This Chardonnay balances fruit definition with mineral drive, offering elegance rather than opulence. It is approachable in its youth yet structured enough to reward short-term cellaring and thoughtful food pairing.

      Bubb + Pooley

Bubb + Pooley was founded in 2021 by Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley, two Tasmanian winemakers with more than two decades of international and local experience each. Anna studied at the University of Adelaide before shaping her craft with respected producers in South Australia, Austria and Tuscany, later returning to Tasmania where she held senior winemaking roles. Justin’s path has been equally global, with formative years spent in Italy and extensive work across Australian regions.

In 2022 they secured their own vineyard at Campania in the Coal River Valley, with mature Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet vines first planted in 2000. Alongside their estate, they draw on trusted vineyard partners across Tasmania, selecting parcels that best reflect site and season. In the winery they favour restrained use of oak, indigenous fermentations and concrete vessels, a measured approach that highlights precision and texture while keeping the focus firmly on fruit and place.
