Product Description:
Elegantly peated and traditionally distilled in coastal Hokkaido. Nikka Yoichi 10 Year Old Single Malt is a richly expressive Japanese whisky shaped by sea air, seasonal extremes, and a resolutely old-world approach to distillation. Made at Nikka’s original distillery on Japan’s northernmost island, it reflects the vision of founder Masataka Taketsuru, who brought Scottish methods to Japan in the 1930s.
The Yoichi distillery continues to use direct coal-fired pot stills, an increasingly rare technique that lends weight and character to the spirit. This 10-year-old expression reveals layers of orchard fruit, clove, and subtle smoke, with a maritime edge and firm structure from cask maturation. Each batch may vary slightly, but the signature profile remains balanced, full-bodied, and quietly complex. A contemplative dram, equally suited to slow sipping or refined pairings such as grilled mackerel or aged gouda.
Tasting Notes
NOSE
– Salty peat and orchard sweetness
Smoke‑tinged peat and sea air at first, giving way to golden apple, honeyed vanilla and a hint of citrus zest.
PALATE
– Smooth, smoky and layered
Flavours of creamy malt and light peat merge with soft vanilla, pear, and gentle coastal salinity, rounded by subtle oak spice and a light herbal note.
FINISH
– Long, smoky and mellow
Lingering dry peat and soft oak fade slowly, leaving gentle smoke, sea‑salt minerality and a touch of sweetness.
