A singular expression of terroir and pedigree from one of Chablis’s most revered domaines, the 2023 Domaine François Raveneau Blanchot Grand Cru Chablis delivers clarity, depth and enduring finesse. Blanchot is the most easterly and one of the steepest of Chablis’s Grand Cru climats, where chalky Kimmeridgian limestone soils give rise to wines of exceptional energy and precision.
In the hands of Raveneau, the 2023 vintage reveals a crystalline core of citrus and orchard fruit, framed by saline minerality and finely defined acidity. The bouquet opens with aromas of pear, orange zest and citrus blossom, layered with notes of crushed shell, subtle florals and a hint of beeswax that add complexity and texture.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied yet buoyant, with vibrant acidity carrying concentrated flavours of green apple, lemon zest and white peach through a long, mineral-driven finish. Classical winemaking practices including hand harvesting, gentle pressing and extended lees contact with minimal oak influence allow the site’s character to shine. Compelling with careful cellaring and built for long-term evolution, this Blanchot Grand Cru will reward patience over decades and pairs beautifully with fine seafood, shellfish or rich poultry dishes.

“Informed by the estate’s oldest vines planted in the 1930s, the 2023 Blanchot is medium to full-bodied, enveloping yet bright and precise, with aromas of pear, orange zest, beeswax and wheat toast. It offers crystalline focus and promise.”
“The 2023 Blanchot Grand Cru has wonderful definition and a beautifully balanced palate with a killer line of acidity. It is tensile, focused and lightly spiced with an elegant saline thread and should age for 20 to 30 years.”
“A profound Grand Cru Chablis with refined structure, expressive fruit and a long mineral finish; poised for extended development in bottle.”
Domaine François Raveneau is one of Chablis’ most revered family domaines, celebrated for producing Chardonnay of extraordinary precision, longevity, and quiet power. Based in the heart of Chablis, the estate has built its reputation on small, meticulously farmed parcels across the region’s most coveted sites, producing wines that are unmistakably mineral, layered, and deeply expressive of place.
Today, the domaine is led by third-generation cousins Isabelle and Maxime Raveneau, with the guidance and continued involvement of their fathers, Bernard and Jean-Marie. Together, they carry forward the legacy established by founder François Raveneau, who shaped the estate’s identity from the 1970s by committing to traditional viticulture, restrained winemaking, and uncompromising standards in the vineyard.
Production remains intentionally limited at around 3,000 cases annually. With holdings spread across Grand Cru, Premier Cru, Village and Petit Chablis sites, every parcel receives the same level of care and attention, a defining principle that underpins the domaine’s global reputation and enduring demand among collectors.
At Domaine François Raveneau, the philosophy is simple and unwavering. If it is not broken, it is not fixed.
The family believes that great wine begins in the vineyard, shaped by hard work rather than intervention. Each plot is farmed traditionally, with manual ploughing to preserve soil vitality, careful yield control through disbudding, and tailored trellising to suit each vineyard’s aspect and exposure. Harvest is carried out by hand to protect fruit integrity and ensure only perfectly balanced grapes reach the cellar.
In the winery, restraint continues to guide every decision. Grapes are pressed immediately after harvest and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, allowing purity of fruit and terroir to take centre stage. Maturation takes place largely in older barrels, typically around seven years of age, used not to impart flavour but to build texture and structure over time. New oak is kept to an absolute minimum.
Ageing is patient and deliberate, ranging from just over a year to more than a decade depending on the cuvée. Wines are finished with additional time in stainless steel and, in some cases, extended bottle ageing before release. The result is a collection of wines defined by clarity, balance, and the unmistakable imprint of Chablis’ Kimmeridgian soils.
As Isabelle Raveneau succinctly puts it, the secret is that there is no secret. It starts in the vineyard, and then it is simply hard work.
Aromas of pear, orange zest and lemon blossom weave with crushed shell, saline undertones, white flowers and faint beeswax complexity.
The palate is medium to full-bodied with focused citrus, green apple and chalky mineral layers underpinned by racy acidity and a finely textured core.
A sustained finish marked by saline clarity, lemon zest and taut minerality that resonates with harmony and focus.
