The 2009 vintage of Château Latour stands as a testament to the estate's timeless quality, boasting a remarkable depth and complexity that will reward those patient enough to cellar it for decades. A blend of 91.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8.7% Merlot, this wine exhibits the classic power and finesse that has made Latour one of Bordeaux's most iconic estates. With a history dating back to 1824, Château Latour’s unparalleled terroir in Pauillac, combined with meticulous winemaking, ensures a wine of extraordinary structure, richness, and elegance.
The 2009 is a vivid expression of the estate’s prime terroir, with layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, and cassis, underpinned by mineral and graphite notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet refined, with silky tannins and a finish that lingers, showcasing the potential for long-term aging. With a promising lifespan until at least 2080, this wine is an embodiment of the skill and legacy of Château Latour and is destined to be a prized addition to any collection.
"Great concentration and a previously unseen quantity of tannins characterized the wines, which possessed extraordinary aromatic intensity, freshness and precision. Rich, ripe and mineral, with a very long, lingering finish. An exceptional year which will improve for many years." - Winemaker Notes

Deep garnet colored, the 2009 Latour is unashamedly youthful with bold blackcurrants, black cherries and warm plums notes plus nuances of cedar chest, aniseed, beef drippings, truffles and tapenade with a waft of tilled black soil. Full, concentrated and powerful in the mouth, it has a rock-solid frame of super ripe, grainy tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing very long and wonderfully minerally. Just a baby—this needs time!
Dark and chocolatey with a lot of richness, but also a cool herbal freshness this is a very impressive Medoc wine that's already delicious to drink. Very long, surprisingly supple finish for this château. A perfect wine.
A blend of 91.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8.7% Merlot with just under 14% natural alcohol, the 2009 Latour is basically a clone of the super 2003, only more structured and potentially more massive and long lived. An elixir of momentous proportions, it boasts a dense purple colour and an extraordinarily flamboyant bouquet of black fruits, graphite, crushed rocks, subtle oak and a notion of wet steel. It hits the palate with a thundering concoction of thick, juicy blue and black fruits, lead pencil shavings and a chalky minerality. Full-bodied but very fresh with a finish that lasts over a minute, this is one of the most remarkable young wines I have ever tasted. Will it last one hundred years? No doubt about it. Can it be drunk in a decade? For sure. Drink 2022 - 2080.
An incredible wine in every way, the 2009 Château Latour displays the ripe, sexy style of the vintage while still offering classic Latour power, density, and regalness. Currants, spicy wood, smoked tobacco, graphite, and ample minerality all define the bouquet, and it’s full-bodied, with incredible density, perfectly integrated, ripe, polished tannins, and a finish that leaves no doubt about the insane quality of this wine. Based on 91.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8.7% Merlot, and checking in at 13.7% alcohol, it’s drinking brilliantly today given its incredible texture and balance, and I suspect it has another 50-60 years of prime drinking. This is as good a Bordeaux as I’ve had and is as good as wine gets.
A blend of 91.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8.7% Merlot, the opaque garnet-black colored 2009 Latour prances from the glass with showy notes of black cherry preserves, blueberry pie, and black currant jelly, leading to an undercurrent of camphor, clove oil, and cinnamon toast. The medium to full-bodied palate is decadently stacked with black and blue fruit layers, framed by super-plush tannins and jaw-dropping tension, culminating in a fragrant finish that just goes on and on. It’s flat-out delicious right now but promises to reward the patient. Drink 2024-2060.
Classic Pauillac power and finesse, packed with brambled fruits, hedgerow earthiness, exuberant while being controlled and carefully delivered. This has shoulders and backbone, and is impossible to ignore. Still in its primary phase so zero need to rush, but you are going to get more joy from this 2009 than you will with the 2010 vintage for at least the next five years. Penelope Godefroy technical director at the time, 100% new oak. Although they had not begun conversion at this point, things were moving in that direction - horses had been reintroduced within the vineyard as of 2008, and all chemical weedkillers had been stopped in the 1990s. The first biodynamic experiments took place in this vintage, but just over 3ha of vines.
The 2009 Latour is endowed with a simply magnificent nose with intense blackberry and cassis fruit laced with minerals and graphite, extremely focused to the point of overwhelming the sense. Wow. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, multilayered black fruit infused with crushed stone and a hint of white pepper, though it clams up towards the finish as if to say, not yet. Outstanding. This is Latour firing on all cylinders. Drink 2032 - 2070
The hot, dry summer of 2009 produced a somewhat burly wine that seems riper and almost sweeter than the 2010 vintage, although it lacks a bit of the tension and freshness of the 2010. The result is fleshy and dense, with an almost fearsome depth of flavour. The texture suggests that this wine has the substance to age for decades, while the approachable character means that it should open up before the 2010 vintage. In 2009, the picking lasted from 23rd September through to 10th October, and the final blend was over 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance being Merlot; neither Cabernet Franc nor Petit Verdot made an appearance in the grand vin. Drink 2032 - 2082.
Château Latour, located in the heart of the Médoc wine region, has long been regarded as one of Bordeaux’s most esteemed estates. With a history dating back to the 14th century, the vineyard’s legacy continues under the careful stewardship of the team at Latour, guided by an unwavering commitment to quality and tradition. The estate’s Grand Vin is made exclusively from old vines, with an average age of 60 years, located in the heart of the Enclos, a unique terroir that offers the perfect conditions for cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon. This exceptional grape variety accounts for more than 90% of the blend, allowing Château Latour to produce wines with remarkable depth, elegance, and concentration. Over the decades, the vineyard has continued to evolve and expand, acquiring new plots and refining its winemaking techniques, ensuring that each vintage of Château Latour is an impeccable expression of the land. The estate is not only known for its consistent ability to craft exceptional wines in great years but also for its resilience in difficult vintages, proving its mastery of the terroir year after year.
At Château Latour, the philosophy is centred around a deep respect for the land and a commitment to producing wines that are the purest reflection of its exceptional terroir. The vineyard, with its unique microclimate and ideal proximity to the Gironde estuary, is the heart of the estate, where each vine is carefully nurtured to ensure optimal expression of the grapes. The estate’s soils—clayey gravel in the Enclos and gravelly sand around the edges—provide the perfect foundation for the vines, with deep roots that allow them to thrive even in times of drought. The emphasis is on minimal intervention, allowing the natural conditions and terroir to shine through in each vintage. Château Latour’s dedication to quality extends to every aspect of production, from the vineyard management to the use of traditional winemaking techniques. With a focus on the long-term, wines from Château Latour are crafted with the belief that great wine requires time—both in the vineyard and in the cellar—to fully evolve and reach their potential. This commitment to excellence has made Château Latour a symbol of Bordeaux’s enduring legacy and a benchmark for fine wine around the world.
A powerful nose of blackberry, cassis, and blackcurrant jelly, layered with mineral and graphite undertones. The bouquet is highly focused, offering a depth that is both captivating and overwhelming in its intensity.
The wine is full-bodied with multi-layered black fruit, including black cherry preserves and blueberry pie. Tannins are plush, with a fine texture that perfectly balances the wine’s rich fruit and subtle spice.
Expansive and long, with a harmonious balance between ripe fruit and a chalky, mineral freshness. A gentle, almost seamless end leaves a lasting impression of finesse and power.
