The highly sought Old Rip Van Winkle Bourbons, also known as the famous Pappy, are back in extremely limited supply.

The Old Rip Van Winkle 107 Proof 10 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey is bottled as close to barrel proof as possible. Made with just a splash of Kentucky limestone well-water when they empty the barrels for bottling. This whisky is as smooth as they come. This is a robust sipping Bourbon with heady spice and vanilla aromatics accompanied by marzipan and some candied orange, it is equally concentrated and mouth-filling. And some how approachable for a high-proof offering, achieved through balance.

This rare allocation comes from the prestigious Van Winkle collection and produced by Buffalo Trace Distillery, its mash bill is believed to be derived from Buffalo Trace wheated mash, comprised of 70% corn, 16% wheat and 14% malted barley. Spending 10 years in virgin American white oak. A remarkable find that ranks among the world's finest whiskies.

Rich copper colour. Aromas of fruity, buttery caramel fudge, roasted pecans, and fine brown spices with a plush, chewy, fruity-yet-dry medium-full body and a long, lingering cherry tobacco, toffee, raisin toast, charcoal, and peppery spice finish. A sensationally flavourful and deep bourbon for sipping or cocktails.

    Van Winkle

Van Winkle Bourbon Whiskey is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon whiskey produced by the Sazerac Company at its Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. This production arrangement by Buffalo Trace Distillery was the result of a joint venture arrangement with the Van Winkle family that who established their brand in May 2002. This transition was seamless, with Buffalo Trace producing the Van Winkle bourbons, using Pappy’s exact recipe. This change allows Old Rip Van Winkle to maintain their exacting standards while producing more barrels for future enjoyment. And yet demand continues to outpace supply with each release. Only 7,000 cases of Old Rip Van Winkle and Pappy Van Winkle are produced for the world annually!

There have been four generations of Van Winkles working for the brand starting with the pioneer who established the Van Winkle juggernaut in the latter part of the 19th century; Julian P ‘Pappy’ Van Winkle Sr. Working as a salesman for the alcohol wholesaler W L Weller and Sons in Louisville, Kentucky and with the help of his friend, Alex Farnsley – acquired the business along with the Stitzel Distillery. They merged the two businesses to form the Stitzel-Weller Distillery producing such bourbons as Old Fitzgerald and W L Weller. Later, Pappy Van Winkle’s son Julian Jr managed the business following his father’s death in 1965 and created a new brand in the pre-Prohibition style, using whiskey stocks he had wisely kept by from the previous distillery. Julian Jr’s son Julian III ran the operation from 1981 following his father’s death and continued the brand. Then Julian Van Winkle III’s son Preston joined in 2001 moving all production to the Buffalo Trace Distillery.
