Howard Park Leston Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
In 1988 Jeff and Amy Burch bought a pastoral property in Margaret River with the intention of developing it for vines. This would ultimately become the Leston vineyard.
Howard Park is historically defined by its dual regions, and the Distinguished Sites afford collectors the opportunity to savour each wine side-by-side, examining the maritime-climate, rich, Leston examples against their cooler-climate, fine Scotsdale counterparts. Leston is the name given to the Margaret River Shiraz and Cabernet duo. It is a vineyard based in Wilyabrup and the namesake owner Jeff Burch’s father, who helped plant the first vines on the property.
Beneath lifted notes of cedary spice, graphite, and sweet earth lies a tantalising tapestry of opulent red and black fruits with undertones of black olive, dusty cocoa and freshly ground coffee. Black currant, mulberry, chocolate-enrobed strawberry, cranberry and plum rise to the forefront accompanied by savoury herbs, cinnamon quills and a whisper of red liquorice. The fruit on the nose is gracefully mirrored on the palate where a seamless interplay of velvety texture and lively, saline acidity is underway, cradled by a supple tannin framework.
