Cullen Wines Late Harvest Chenin Blanc 2024 375ml
Cullen is a biodynamically farmed, carbon neutral, naturally powered estate in the heart of Margaret River. Vanya Cullen is one of Australia’s most celebrated winemakers, and was an early pioneer of farming grapes and producing wines in accordance with the biodynamic calendar. She is also the 2020 James Halliday Wine Companion Winemaker of the Year.
Chenin Blanc was planted on the Cullen Vineyard Estate in 1976. This dessert wine is made from hand picked cane cut grapes with the fruit quality being exceptional, reflecting an excellent growing season. Pure, refreshing with a cleansing finish. Will match well with soft cheeses and desserts like honey mousse, or apple pie and ice- cream.
2024 was a very hot and dry harvest and it was not necessary to cut the canes and the concentrated fruit naturally dried out on the vine giving this unique expression of old vine Chenin Blanc dessert wine. It was low yielding and even more so due to the extraordinary harvest conditions. It was picked at the end of harvest in mid-February on a Fruit day on the Biodynamic calendar. Capturing the beautiful natural acidity of Chenin, the wine was chilled to finish with 130 g/L of sugar. A delicious and fresh dessert wine that will gain further complexity with age.
Bouquet: Perfumed floral presentation with violets and honeysuckle, sweet pear, toffee.
Palate: Rich in sweet, elegant ripe fruits, accentuated notes of Apple custard, dried figs and honeycomb. Beautiful balance of sweet fruit in the middle palate lined with a delicate and elegant bright acid transitioning to a balanced and persistent finish.
