The dry-grown site has a distinctive soil profile that Tyrrell’s credits with giving Vat 47 its individual character and long-standing identity. All fruit for the 2024 release was hand-picked between 8 and 15 January before being immediately basket-pressed. The free-run juice was transferred to French oak barriques for fermentation and maturation, allowing oak and fruit to develop together without overwhelming the vineyard expression. The resulting wine combines ripe stone fruit and citrus with the concentration, structure and freshness expected from one of Tyrrell’s flagship Winemaker’s Selection wines.

The wine spent approximately nine months in French oak before bottling in October, with a slight solids ferment contributing additional savoury texture and grain to the palate. White peach, ripe lemon and grapefruit sit alongside creamy notes, ginger spice and restrained nutty oak complexity. Despite the generosity of the 2024 season, the palate remains tightly shaped by Vat 47’s characteristic acidity, giving the wine tension and impressive length. Fine oak spice and a smooth, layered texture add richness without sacrificing freshness or precision. The balance of fruit concentration, savoury texture and acidity gives the 2024 excellent early appeal while also supporting further development in bottle.

Tasting Notes
NOSE
– Ripe, creamy and finely spiced
White peach, ripe lemon and stone fruit with subtle creaminess, ginger spice, grilled nuts and restrained French oak.

PALATE
– Generous, layered and precise
Ripe citrus and stone fruit are balanced by fine acidity, creamy texture, subtle savoury grain and beautifully integrated oak spice.

FINISH
– Long, fresh and composed
Grapefruit, lemon, white peach and gentle nutty spice linger through a persistent finish shaped by bright acidity and fine texture.

Reviews & Accolades
“A class act, layered and generous with fabulous inherent tension... The palate is tense, with mineral-driven acidity and a creamy texture, giving layers of citrus, stone fruit and fine oak spices. Long and focused, with real persistence. Drink or hold. About 15% new oak, 40% second use, the rest old. Lime and white peach, light creamy vanilla and cinnamon oak gives it some extra perfume. Medium-bodied, a roundness and generosity to flavour, though it’s still quite discreet in context, some hazelnut, balanced acidity, flinty, with a gently spicy finish of excellent length. It’s still a baby now, and needs a couple of years to resolve. It’s a smooth, suave, and a really good Vat 47” — Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, 95+ Points

Finer Details:
Brand - Tyrrell's
Style - White Wine
Varietal - Chardonnay
Country - Australia
State - New South Wales
Region - Hunter Valley
Vintage - 2024
ABV - 13.5%
Size - 750ml

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/9258/3217/files/09dfab44-a6a8-4269-bf2e-1fd6172891b5.webp?v=1791975491
