Sasso means stone and while the fruit that ends up in the Sasso comes from our stoney grey gravel soils, this is a barrel selection wine, chosen in the winery not just in the vineyard. Steve progressively tastes the barrels as they are aging and marks the ones that he finds most intriguing. Often the tightest, shyest barrels, they are the ones with the most longevity and potential.

Malt over sour cherry with licks of pepper and a slug of sour-cherry flavour. Has an exotic kind of bouquet. Palate is wild edged showing chinotto-like characters, charry-chewy tannins and a sprinkle of green herbs and autumn leaves in the sour cranberry tang. Lots of character, lots of interest. - Mike Bennie, Wine Front
