St Hugo is a story of legacy and reinvention, their team honour the traditions of winemaking legend Hugo Gramp. Grandson of pioneering vigneron Johann Gramp and founder of Gramp & Sons winery in 1847. Bringing his historical vision of not only the brand but the Barossa into the modern world.

St Hugo pays tribute to its namesake Hugo, and each vintage they make is in celebration of his love of the land he grew up on, from their first vintage in 1980. The St Hugo wines showcase deep respect for the grapes grown on their sites by turning them into wines with structure, power and elegance. The wines are crafted to be part of your celebrations with loved ones all over the world – from their vineyards to your table.

Sourced from a single vineyard planted in 1921 these vines are all you would expect of a vineyard approaching 100 years of age, gnarled, twisted and expressing their many years of hardship. Barossa Shiraz at its finest, showcasing the distinctive sub-regional characteristics of fruit selected from the Rowland Flat sub region of the Barossa Valley. Bright and vibrant with dark red fruits and a plush opulence this is a wine approachable in it’s youth and the depth of flavour to age.

From 1921 plantings comes this beautifully open knit Barossan Shiraz with its generous layers of plush red fruits underlined by leathery spices and new oak, all well matched. A more traditional palate follows already showing savoury earthiness aged notes, with fruit pastille complexity. Solid tannins and a juiciness to the acidity provide vitality leading up to a lingering, cedary finish. It feels close to peak although it will hold for some years to come. - Angus Hughson, winepilot.com, 93 Points
