Punt Road Gamay 2019
Punt Road winemaker Tim Shand is making some of our favourite Yarra Valley wines at the moment, with his Pinot Gris, Chardonnay & Pinot Noir all being delicious and character filled expressions at more than reasonable prices. The 2019 vintage of Punt Road Gamay is no exception; if you are unfamiliar with the grape think a meatier, spicer, more versatile Pinot Noir. Maybe the best $28 you’ll spend on red wine this winter.
“I think we’ve said it before, but Gamay has a great future in the Yarra Valley, and it’s a better grape than Pinot Noir too. What a charming and tasty wine this is. Cherry and little raspberry frogs leaping into a bowl of black pepper, gin and cinnamon, a wisp of smokiness in the background. It’s supple and fruity, but kind of meaty and spicy too, with gentle graphite tannin grip, and strawberry and spice running on a good long finish. So nicely done” 93 points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
