Since the inaugural 2015 release, the wine has come exclusively from a small parcel within Prophet's Rock's Home Vineyard in the hills of Bendigo. This steep glacial terrace rises between approximately 320 and 390 metres and combines clay with schist, quartz and a distinctive layer of pedogenic limestone and chalk. The 2022 displays ripe plum, cherry and red berry fruit alongside rose petal, flowering thyme and more savoury forest-floor notes. Its combination of mineral tension, fine tannin and bright natural acidity gives the wine both immediate elegance and considerable ageing potential.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe fruit was hand harvested, completely destemmed and fermented with indigenous wild yeasts in small open-top fermenters. Extraction was deliberately restrained, with the fermenters hand-plunged only once during fermentation to preserve perfume, finesse and the naturally fine structure of the Pinot Noir. The wine then matured for 17 months in French oak barrels, approximately 30% of which were new, and underwent indigenous malolactic fermentation. On the palate, cherry, blood orange and darker berry fruit mingle with violets, dried herbs, anise and fine mineral nuances.
