Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling 2018
The Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling 2018 is a delicate fragrant spicy dry wine. Lemon-lime and citrus blossom frame an intense full, rich palate. Wonderful natural acidity completemenates chalky minerality, the palate long and intense.
As with all great Riesling years, the 2018 will age gracefully for many decades while being immediately approachable.
The Hanlin Hill vineyard is on the eastern slopes of the Claire Valley at up to 500 meters above sea level.
Planted in 1968, the old vines received wonderful soaking winter rains and then follow up rain from the second week of September- records were broken and major flooding occurred all over the state. The whole of South Australia then blacked out on the 30th of September after more really severe storms.
As a result of the cold wet spring, the growing season started later than in recent years reverting to more normal long term averages. They began hand picking on the 6th of March in beautiful autumn sunshine, and finished ten days laters. The fruit was transported to our winery near Woodside, destemmed, crushed and pressed to stainless steel tanks for fermentation.
