Winter brought substantial rainfall before an unusually dry late winter, while turbulent spring conditions gave way to extreme temperatures during harvest. Selective irrigation and careful harvesting allowed the Opus One team to preserve freshness while capturing ripe, concentrated fruit. The resulting wine combines the structural sensibility of its Bordeaux heritage with the richness and generosity of Napa Valley, and its composition of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 6.5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 0.5% Malbec gives the vintage considerable depth and complexity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the glass, blueberry, cassis and dried rose petals introduce the wine, followed by layers of olive, cigar box and graphite. Eighteen months in new French oak sits comfortably within the fruit, emerging as vanilla and subtle coffee alongside a mineral note of wet stone.
