The 2024 growing season was warm, exceptionally dry and early, allowing the fruit to reach flavour maturity while retaining freshness and balance. Hand-picked fruit was carefully sorted, with approximately 70% destemmed and 30% retained as whole bunches to build fragrance, spice and structural complexity. Following a 48-hour cold soak, fermentation took place in small open fermenters with regular hand plunging before the wine completed malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. The result is a generous yet composed expression of Pinot Noir, combining bright red fruit with floral, earthy and subtly spicy characters.

After fermentation, the wine was matured for 18 months in 228-litre French oak barriques, with 17% new oak providing restrained background complexity rather than dominating the fruit. Strawberry, red cherry and plum form the core of the palate, supported by rose petal, clove, cinnamon and developing earthy and mushroom nuances. Fresh acidity brings lift while firm, well-balanced tannins provide shape and length through the palate. The wine already offers attractive fruit and balance in its youth, although Moss Wood expects its savoury and earthy complexity to become more pronounced with bottle age. With careful cellaring, the estate anticipates the wine reaching full maturity at around 20 years of age.

Tasting Notes
NOSE
– Lifted, fragrant and complex
Bright strawberry, red cherry and plum with rose petal and musky florals, followed by clove, cinnamon, earthy mushroom nuances and restrained toasted oak.

PALATE
– Generous, fresh and structured
Strawberry and cherry fruit flow through a medium-bodied palate with plum, spice and earthy complexity, supported by fresh acidity and firm, balanced tannins.

FINISH
– Long, composed and savoury
Persistent red fruit, spice and fine tannin carry through to a balanced finish with subtle earthy and integrated oak notes.

Reviews & Accolades
“The first Moss Wood wine I ever tasted was a pinot back in 1981, so I have always had a soft spot for it.” — Ray Jordan, Ray Jordan Wine, 95 Points

Finer Details:
Brand - Moss Wood
Style - Red Wine
Varietal - Pinot Noir
Country - Australia
State - Western Australia
Region - Margaret River
Vintage - 2024
ABV - 14%
Size - 750ml

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/9258/3217/files/d7686d38-a3f7-419d-a627-635a7bd9d79c.webp?v=1792439684
