Le Clairon des Anges Costieres de Nimes 2016
Le Clairon des Anges Costieres de Nimes was put on the map by the Perrin family of Beaucastel CNDP fame, offering a GSM blend of superb value without the famous Cote du Rhone reputation. La Vielle Ferme is now one of the most recognized brands from France. Le Clairon des Anges translates to "The Bugle of Angels", which aptly describes this beautiful GSM blend. Prior to 2004, Costieres de Nimes was considered part of the Languedoc appellation, however a switch was made to the Rhone Valley as local producers claimed that Costieres de Nimes better matched the Cotes-du-Rhone style.
Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre is a classic southern Rhone valley blend. Blackberry and plum fruit flavours dominate, with a subtle twist of spice and pepper, delivering a rich and smooth Costières de Nîmes. Le Clairon des Anges Costieres de Nimes is extremely full bodied, medium tannins and acidity, however it posses a small, but needed sweetness to balance it out. Perfect to serve with casseroles, medium flavour dishes, or with a cheese platter. Le Clairon des Anges Costieres de Nimes can be drunk now or can be cellared up to 10 years for maximum enjoyment.
Famous for Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the southern portion of the Rhone valley is one of the world's most recognisable wine regions. The Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre blend dominates the landscape, however many other varietals have found success with the Mediterranean climate. With the hot summers this climate brings, southern Rhone wines are known to have a full, rich body. An interesting cultivation technique is the use of pebbles around the vines, which absorb heat during the day and keep the vines warm during the evening.
