The vineyard was planted in 1999 on the region's distinctive ancient Cambrian soils, with rich red-brown topsoil over clay, quartz, small rocks and rubble. Its slightly undulating, north-facing position provides an excellent setting for Shiraz, while the relatively low-fertility soils help control vine vigour and encourage concentration. The 2023 season followed a cold winter and mild, suitably wet spring before moderate summer conditions delayed harvest until early March. Fruit quality was exceptional, producing a wine of impressive depth, freshness and balance from the estate's organically certified vineyard.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFruit from individual vineyard blocks and subsections was vinified separately, creating 20 individual batches before final selection and blending. The grapes were gently destemmed with 20% whole bunches retained, then fermented in traditional open fermenters before being pressed into 500-litre French oak puncheons for malolactic fermentation. The wine matured for approximately 11 months in French oak, including around 20% new oak, before bottling in February 2024. Blackberry, liquorice and dark plum are layered with red plum, fennel, pepper, savoury herbs and subtle vanillin oak.
