The 2026 growing season began with a cool spring before moving into a longer ripening period, allowing careful picking decisions and the development of bright aromatics, lively natural acidity and concentrated flavour. All fruit was hand-picked, reflecting Giant Steps’ detailed vineyard-focused approach. Pinot Noir brings freshness, fragrance and supple red-fruit character, while Syrah contributes darker fruit, spice and additional savoury dimension. At 13.5% alcohol, the wine retains the energetic, highly drinkable character that defines the LDR style.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe two varieties receive different treatments in the winery to preserve their individual characters before coming together in the finished wine. The Syrah undergoes 100% whole-bunch carbonic maceration, while the Pinot Noir is destemmed, cold soaked for four days and fermented as whole berries in small open vats using indigenous yeasts. The wine then spends three months in a combination of 2,000-litre large-format and 225- and 500-litre French oak barrels. It is bottled by gravity without fining or filtration, retaining freshness, texture and fruit expression.
