Domaines Ott Clos Mireille Rose 2019

A bright personality, this wine is a reflection of its terroir on the coast facing the Mediterranean, a land of schists completely free of limestone. Working with the ocean spray, the dry hillside air and generous sunshine, the salty soil helps shape the singular, elegant character of a young vineyard with a passionate heart. Domaines Ott Clos Mireille Rose 2019 is an expression of a blend of various grapes typical of the Cotes de Provence appellation: Grenache, the majority grape, chosen for its full-bodied texture, Cinsault for its well-known softness and Syrah for its fruity roundness. The wine is a very pale pink highlighted, depending on the vintage, with golden, orange and even vermilion tints. Its bouquet reveals fresh fruit (mango, melon) punctuated with lemony notes. On the palate, its freshness develops through citrus aromas around a resolutely mineral core before ending with a subtly persistent finish.

In 1896 Marcel Ott of Alsace found an estate which inspired him, Chateau de Selle in Taradeau, Provence, where once olives, lavender and mulberries grew. Enjoying a unique microclimate the wines are delicate and elegant with great depth. In the 1930s, Marcel Ott fell in love with the very old Clos Mireille, overlooking the sea at La Londe Les Maures, near Bregançon. The vines soon started producing distinctive yet subtle wines. Chateau Romassan in Bandol was acquired by the Ott family in 1956, and following years of terracing and replanting produces robust, harmonious and long lived wines. Cœur de Grain represents wine-making genius, and today the distinctive bottle evokes the memory of the elegant amphora of centuries past. Today, 120 years later, cousins Jean-François and Christian Ott dedicate their lives to their ancestor’s love for Provence.
