Situated toward the northern side of the village near Pommard, the vineyard rises from just above Clos des Angles toward the mid-slope below Pitures. The upper section has extremely shallow soils, in places only around 30 centimetres deep, over decomposing marl rock with clay and limestone. This stony, well-drained terroir gives Fremiet both finesse and a firmer structural presence than some of the domaine’s more immediately delicate Volnay sites.
