Tapanappa is the 21st century chapter of an adventure that pioneered the modern era of the Adelaide Hills wine region. Tapanappa is the name that Brian Croser has given to his ongoing family-owned, fine-wine enterprise based in the Piccadilly Valley where it began more than 40 years ago as Petaluma.

The late ripening of a small crop in perfect cool, dry and sunny conditions, has again defined a very special Chardonnay from our unique vineyards in the distinguished Piccadilly Valley terroir. The 2021 Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay is quite aromatically shy and restrained although the flavours are intense and the texture significant. The colour is lemon with a green sheen. The aroma is of ripe golden almost mushy peach with a croissant pastry complexity imparted by yeast and French oak. The flavour is full, ripe and sweet with a savoury acid and grapefruit finish.

If you’re into statistics, and detailed weather information, then Brian Croser is the man for you. Being English, and specifically Northern English, anyone who knows me well will know that weather observation is a wonderful source of interest for me. Classic Hills Chardonnay, is probably a good way to describe it. It has flavour and fruit, and an underlying savoury character. Cashew and peach, aniseed, cinnamon and cedar oak, ripe grapefruity acidity, a little chalkiness to texture, and a nutty juicy peach and spiced pear flavour carrying on long clean finish. So excellent. - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, 94 Points
