With its origins in the southern Rhône, this Shiraz has evolved to showcase the best of South Australian reds. Sourced from six distinct blocks on the elevated site, this wine is shaped by the sandy soils and ironstone that overlay the ancient North Maslin Sands geological formation. The intage was marked by a hot spring that led to record-low yields. However, the weather miraculously cooled during the ripening season, resulting in a wine with wonderful concentration of flavour, natural acidity, and brightness of fruit. The finesse and balanced tannins of the Yangarra Shiraz are a testament to the winemaking team's dedication to quality. The wine was fermented with wild yeast in open fermenters and on skins for up to 20 days. A gentle maceration principle was used to wet the cap and only drain and return when reductive. No pressings were used in this wine, ensuring a pure expression of the fruit. The wine was then aged on lees in 1 to 3-year French oak puncheons for 7 months before being blended to older 45hL foudre for a further 7 months. In the glass, the Yangarra Shiraz is a deep ruby red with aromas of blackberry, plum and spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with flavors of dark fruit, chocolate and a hint of vanilla. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, providing a long, satisfying finish. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for several years to come. The use of whole bunches has become a signature of all their Shiraz winemaking and this wine had the opportunity to further evolve. The winery started introducing large format foudre in 2017 and a single block of Shiraz (block 12) started to show its head with a particular style that was very much suited to whole bunch and large format oak. The Whole Bunch label has evolved to become the King's Wood, a wine that is truly expressive of type and place. The name King's Wood is inspired by the Royal Oaks and King's Wood forests planted by monarchs to build cathedrals and navies, representing long-term planning. The beautiful old French oak in these giant foudre vessels is perfect for schooling and gently, gradually polishing and protecting the brightest, spiciest Shiraz grown on Yangarra. The 2019 growing season was very dry, resulting in incredibly low yields. The relatively warm lead-up to the ripening period produced a very condensed and fast harvest. With Roussanne being a late ripening variety, it fared very well in a season like this, giving rise to concentration, freshness of flavor, and marked natural acidity. Sourced exclusively from Block 12, which sits on an east-facing, ironstone sandy outcrop, the grapes were hand-picked, with 25% whole bunches being retained and the remainder mechanically berry sorted. The wine underwent a cold soak and open fermentation, with wild yeast being used for fermentation. No pressings were used in this wine, and it was exclusively matured in 25hL French oak Foudre for 15 months. In the glass, the Yangarra Kings Wood Shiraz 2019 is a deep, dark ruby color, with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and spice. The vibrant fruit of those dry-grown 1946 bush vines is rewarded with a long, luxurious ferment and a whole autumn on skins in big ceramic eggs. The 2019 growing season was very dry, resulting in incredibly low yields. The relatively warm lead-up to the ripening period produced a very condensed and fast harvest. These late ripening varieties fared very well in a season like this, giving rise to concentration, freshness of flavor and marked natural acidity. Sourced from Block 30, planted in 1946 and adjacent to the High Sands block, the grapes were hand-picked and mechanically berry sorted. 100% destemmed, crushed and tipped into 675L ceramic eggs, the fermentation occurred in the eggs and remained on skins for 158 days post-fermentation. No pressings were used in this wine. No oak maturation was used and it was matured exclusively in the eggs for another 5 months. In the glass, the Yangarra Ovitelli Grenache 2019 is a bright, clear ruby color, with aromas of red cherries, raspberries and a hint of spice. The 2018 growing season was textbook, with good winter rains and favorable weather conditions during a very mild spring. The generally dry summer led to earlier expected picking dates, especially with lower than average yields. By the end of February and early March, the autumnal nights got quite cool, which really slowed down the ripening process, resulting in fruit of excellent quality. Sourced exclusively from Block 15, which lies amongst a gravelly ironstone outcrop, the grapes were hand-picked, with 25% of the whole bunches being retained and the remainder destemmed, mechanically berry sorted and crushed. No pressings were used in this wine and it was kept on lees in 35% new French oak and 65% older French oak for 15 months. The winery selected individual barrels that showcase the characters of the ironstone that it grows in. The wine was bottled in October 2019. The vibrant fruit of those dry-grown 1946 bush vines is rewarded with a long, luxurious ferment and a whole autumn on skins in big ceramic eggs. The 2021 growing season was favorable, with good winter rains, a mild flowering and fruit set period and continued spring rainfall to ensure a healthy canopy. Yields showed good balance between vine vigor and moderate berry size. The ripening period that began late January was very cool, with some welcome rainfall in mid-February. The delayed harvest, with cold nights and mild sunny days, produced excellent fruit ripeness and intensity. The freshness and bright natural acidity of the fruit were a real feature. Hand-picked on March 24th-25th and selectively berry sorted, the grapes were 100% destemmed, crushed and tipped into 675L ceramic eggs. The fermentation occurred in the eggs and remained on skins for 133 days. No pressings were used in this wine. No oak was used, and it was matured exclusively in the eggs for a total of 13 months. The wine is certified organic and biodynamic. In the glass, the Yangarra Estate Ovitelli Grenache 2021 is a bright, clear ruby color, with aromas of red cherries, raspberries and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with flavors of red fruit, herbs and a touch of earthiness. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, and the finish is long and satisfying.

Medium deep crimson. With its origins in the southern Rhône, this Shiraz has evolved to showcase the best of South Australian reds. To achieve this they began with removing all synthetic herbicides, pesticides and fertilisers on our estate vineyard, these changes promoted a natural succession in soil and vine health. By applying biodynamic preparations in the vineyard, Yangarra have cultivated a beneficial soil microbial biomass. This is supported by their natural composting processes, which includes mulching grasses under vine back into the soil, building organic matter. By applying biodynamic principals they've promoted a diverse soil microbiology in which the vines grow. An ideal match for grilled meats, braised lamb or richly sauced pasta.

Tasting Notes
NOSE
– Fruit and spice
Aromas of ripe plum, black cherry and raspberry with hints of pepper and floral lift.

PALATE
– Balanced and expressive
Juicy red and dark fruits layered with savoury spice, smooth tannins and a touch of Viognier-derived freshness.

FINISH
– Smooth and lingering
Persistent dark fruit and spice with a refined, polished close.

Finer Details:
Style – Red Wine
Varietal – Shiraz, Viognier
Country – Australia
Region – McLaren Vale, South Australia
Vintage – 2023
Bottle Size – 750ml
ABV – 13.5%
Other – Organic, Biodynamic

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/9258/3217/files/Yangarra_Shiraz_2023_dc99a4f2-293f-4bd0-8921-0aa7fe0f86d7.jpg?v=1768887267
yangarra-estate-roux-beaute-roussanne-2023
Yangarra Estate Roux Beaute Roussanne 2023

Product Description:
Textural, refined and quietly powerful.
